use my Sony Handicam to upload my dvx100a footage to the computer? will it stay in 24pa?

Yes, your Sony will work fine. 24P footage (normal and advanced) gets laid down to tape with the same NTSC DV specifications as 60i video. So it looks like normal DV 29.97 fps/60i video footage to *any* DV player or NLE. Nothing changes until you remove the pulldown in post.

just a quick question whilst in this zone. What would be the result of taking 24p footage and outputing to sony digital 8 from NLE via firewire? would it loose or stay the same?

It would be a direct clone.
So I can dump 24p once to NLE then fire it out to sony digital 8 and use the sony as the edit deck and save some DVX wear and tear?
