I recently tweaked the setting and got a Bluury Tracer Effect (where panning would elicit blur and trails)
I forgot what settings I used

So you're trying to recreate the effect? It sounds like you really slowed down the shutter speed in 24P, so that's the first thing I'd play with.

Yes
Plus, i lied. I had done this during my tests with the XL2, i was tweking the settings and got all kinds of dramtic trails and blur at different shutter settings. could have been the lens? Is this not a easy to do with dvx? cause i cant seem to recreate it- in any mode

huh? You got the tracer effect at different shutter speeds? that doesn't sound good. In fact, it should be inpossible unless there is something wrong with your electronic shutter. The only way to create a tracer effect is whith a slow shutter speed, unless there is a serious CCD problem with the camera. This should not happen at faster shutter speeds, and is actually one thing that many professionals will look out for when shopping for a camera. You can recreat that effect in post using blended frames, but other than that I don't know what you could have changed on the settings of the XL2 to get that effect.
Interesting. I thought this post would be about "Tracer fire" when I first saw it!
That is indeed weird.... why do you want to replicate the look btw?

turns out it was simply slow shutter speeds on xl2 that are not on dvx but - i hear- are on dvxa- which is on its way to me.
would only use as artsy effect for music video kind of stuff.
