I bought my DVX100AE four weeks ago. I had to return it two weeks ago because the zoom was slightly jerky (horizontal shaking, manually and with servo) when zooming in at around Z90. Yesterday I received my camera with the optics replaced. Now I get horizontal shaking when zooming out at Z94, along with severe back focusing problems, so IŽll have to return it again. Although I really love the camera otherwise, IŽm having second thoughts about my purchase.
Has anyone else experienced the jerky horizontal zoom action above Z90? If so, how do you cope with it?

I have a DVX100P and When I zoom out from being completely zoomed in, I notice that my focus changes intil I stop un-zooming.

Would anyone happen to know what would cause that?

.. at max tele, the closest you can focus is m50, at max wide you can focus down to m00 . * *if you have the focus set below m 50, and try to zoom all the way out, the focus will shift to the closest focus point it can to what it was at below m50 for the given zoom your at . * *as you zoom back out.. it will go back closer and closer as it is able to all the way to the point it was originally at under m50 and *then it will stop at its original setting even if you continue to zoom out more.

its like having a paperclip tied to a 5" string .. if you set the paperclip on the table.. you can *pull the string 5" off the table and the paperclip will stay where you set it, but as you pull higher than 5" the paperclip must come off the table relativ to how far the string is pulled off the table.. if you lower the sting back down.. the paperclip will lower relativily, untill its back at its original point on the desk *where it will stay as long s you dont go above 5" off the table. * *
..in the camera *the focus isnt directly # for # connected to the zoom so that for every # above z50 you zoom in the focus will push out one # - *but it *IS directly relative to the zoom on a curve. *

hope this helps.

spyderman- when did you buy your DVX camera? You could either have your focus on automatic or your back focus my be jacked up! When I got my DVX I had a problem with my back focus. I would zoom in all the way to focus and as I'm zooming back out its goes out of focus midway. I sent my camera to the shop and they said my back focus was phucked! Its works perfect now.
