Default is set at zero-
Why would you or when would you want to set it higher?
I guess I get the negative values like if you want blurry stuff.

negative values aren't actually blurrier - they appear to be, because there's less artificial edge enhancement - but the DVX set to -7 detail I believe is actually *no* detail enhancement.
When it's set to 0, there isn't any *really* obtrusive edge enhancement, but it definitely is there. So it really depends on what you want. For blow ups, for large format screenings, I'd suggest very little edge enhancement, maybe set it to -4 or less. You'd want it higher if you were staying in Standard Def, and you wanted a very artificially sharp picture. It adds those edge enhancement artifacts though - I never use it set higher than -3 myself.
