I've applied at 13 different places for a job. I wont list them. It's mostly retail. However, I haven't gotten a call back from anyone. :( not from one! *sighs* I've also called a few that I was more interested in ... and they have no positions open..

How did you apply ?
What were you wearing ?
What is your past job experience ?

I applied online and walk-in. Certain places required a resume' (verizon wireless, hollywood video)
Black Slacks and a polo.
I've had 3 jobs.
Courtesy Clerk at Albertsons (quit because of low-pay /5.55) 1 year
Floor Staff ant Century Theaters (quit because of low-pay /6.50) 3 months
Cashier/Customer Service Desk/Cart Attendent at Target (Involuntarily terminated under 90 days for not wearing a safety vest) 2 months
Besides getting fired nothing is wrong. My "legal record" has not a speck on it. I've never been arrested.

Did you mention that you've been a DVXuser since July 2005?
It can't hurt.
Hang in there. The right job usually finds you.
Evan S

Are you serious about that? It's probably a good Idea.

McDonalds is always taking applications.
Do that until you do find a job. Keeps the cash flow. When you get a job, quit your job at MickeyDs.

Be persistent. Show your interested and ambitious.
Once you fill out an application, call them and follow-up in a week or so.
Retail places should be hiring now for the holiday season. I know for a fact Best Buy is hiring for the holidays.
Good luck.

wow you got fired for not wearing the safety vest? I worked at target for about 9 months..mostly sales floor, but I got carts once in awhile and sometimes didnt wear the vest. They didnt do anything to me. Did you continually refuse or something?
Evan S
10-03-2006, 02:14 PM
Well, no one would believe me if I told them. I was never told to use the vest whilst getting carts for the entire first month of working there, at the end of the month we were visited by corporate and warned to wear our vest. I started wearing it all the time afterward, infact when I was terminated I was wearing it! They had stated that a week before the date in which I was fired I was seen not wearing the vest by a manager. They then claimed that she told me twice to wear it when she came outside to "check on me" and I told her I would but never did.
Strangely... I don't ever remember seeing her outside once during the time I worked there! Nor do I remember her telling me to wear it.

I've been working at Target for a little over 3 months now (started in flow and now work in backroom). Their pretty lax around here. I'm surprised they fired you just like that.
I think everyone is hiring now in prep for the holiday season. My managers are begging their employees to bring people in for interviews.
How long has it been since you applied? Maybe you haven't waited long enough yet.
Anyways good luck. Something always comes along when you least expect it.

When corporate comes to inspect things it reminds me of nazis inspecting prison camps. I dont know why I get that vibe. Other than that Target is a good store to work for. I will probably go back there pretty soon...as I'm jobless now.

Hey, I applied at wal-mart. They haven't called me back.
It's been 3 weeks for somplaces, 2 weeks for others, and one week for some. I guess I am over reacting, but all three jobs I've had they've gotten back to me withing 2 days. So I guess my lucky streak must end.
As for the target thing, I don't know how the one you worked at was. If you were written up once you were fired. I was given 2 written-verbal warnings which I never signed because I never saw them. However, they have the right to terminate you for no reason at all under your 90 days, perhaps they just didn't like who I was.

don't you have any friends that can hook you up with a job?
nearly every job i've ever gotten has been through a friend.

Always call within a few days of having applied. When you apply for a job make
sure you ask intelligent questions about the job (do a little research). But do
call a few days after applying and ask to speak to the manager, tell them you
are interested in the job and would like to know the status.
I just hired two new clerks and fired one. The guy I fired, though had decent
customer service skills, the guy couldn't dress properly (a slob) for the job.
Sounds like you were pressed and ready to go. Email me or private message
me if you want to be coached. Both clerks that left this hotel got jobs in
super nice hotels and one thing that helped them was the coaching invovled.

Its much easier to find a job if you have some kind of skill others need. I've done my share of Blockbuster and restaurant jobs. It was very short lived because I found out that a skill I learned back in high school as a projectionist is in need somewhat down here. Personally I've done some retail and I hated it. I don't mind working with the clients I work with now but the people I would run into at Blockbuster and at the theater were some of the stupidest and rudest people I've ever met. But I guess we all have to start somewhere.

Damn you think you have it bad...
Its been almost a year and I have not been able to secure a full time Job, I've tailored each CV, Covering Letter, done all the stuff you are meant to, I've applied to places all over the UK.
The response:
I've had more that four Interviews (all failed)
(1) You are over skilled and over Qualified for this Job.
(2) You have the right qualifications but you do not have the right experience.
I'm stuck between a rock and a very hard place, but yet I presist.
I'm slowly thinking of starting my own company, bha I don't know anymore. :(
I wish you more luck, keep trying is all I can say.
Have your CV read by professionals and tailor it.

try to find work at a hotel. im telling you, the best money for your age. valet/bellman/houseman/shuttle driver or some job like that - you get wage plus tips. go to the nicest most expensive places you can find and try to get in there. they are always looking for people - always. i should know, ive been in the hotel industry for about 10 years and put myself thru school that way. its easy, fun, and you meet amazing people - its a daily character study. plus a ton of cash tips. dont do mcdonalds or walmart or those places - so much more money and benefits and union power at hotels, plus usually hot front desk chicks as well. oh, and the stories youll be able to tell - late night rendevous with lonely traveling business ladies looking for love. no joke!

First of all you have to NOT tell them that you quit because of low pay. If i saw that I wouldn't hire you because I would think that you come on at one pay and demand another and leave if you didn't get it. You should say left to move on to bigger prospects or something. Take off the Target on your resume, that kills you too. If you have not been working more than 6 months at a place you should not put it on your resume, a year even.

Weird. I only put truth most of the time. I'm very upfront, which is probably why I don't get hired, but I feel it's important. Maybe I'll land some job with someone who appreciates honesty. But I never put low pay.
Doubtful, time to ommit things!

Think about it. If you were the one hiring and someone had a resume like that and one that didn't, who would you choose? If they out right ask you then you have to tell them but you must say it in a way like I suggested. You went to look for better things. The way you worded it, it was like a dig at your old employer. You want to make it seem like it was the best job in the world but it just wasn't for you.
