I just got my DVX100a. LOVE IT TO DEATH!...but, am I blind or does the DVX100a not have an LANC input. With this camera being as professional as it is, I am shocked that it doesn't have a standard feature as that.

Yeah, it's a surprise that it's missing but it is.
One of the biggest downfalls of the camera for sure.

Mine has one - its called 'Camera Remote' - on the rear panel under the head phone socket

But that's not LANC. LANC is a specific type of camera remote protocol, licensed from Sony, which provides for zoom/record/focus control. The Panasonic's jack provides for zoom and record, but not for focus.

Not exactly sure that the criteria for LANC control is the ability to focus remotely - eg my Sony DSR11 deck can not be focused via the LANC ::)
- but the Manfrotto 522p certainly has most normal functions required of remote camera control whether it is called LANC or otherwise.( unless you wanted to use camera as a live broadcast unit where focusing from the pan handle might be desireable).

The criteria for LANC control is that it be licensed from Sony and made LANC-compatible. LANC is a trademarked, brand-name protocol, not some generic reference for the concept of remote control. Panasonic didn't want to license it from Sony, and didn't want to pay the fee, so it's not LANC-compatible.
Focus is part of the LANC spec for camera remotes. That's why cameras with LANC ports have remote focus control. Panasonic made their own style of remote jack, and unfortunately they chose to not include focus control.
The Manfrotto 522p is not a LANC controller, may not work on a camera with a LANC jack, and has no focus control. It's compatible with Panasonic's remote jack, but not with a LANC jack.

Thank you for informing me of this. :-[
Now I wonder why the other guys would expect a Sony Protocol on a Panasonic product and be critical of the fact it does not have it.

Because being able to control focus remotely is iimportant when youo have an infinity focus ring (ie a foucs ring that does not stop and reset after you take it past a certain degree).
Being able to set focus marks and pulling to those marks each time on cue is very very crucial in production.
Correct me if I'm mistaken ;D, I'm just uspet that the dvx100a doesn't have this either. It most definately should whether it be Panasonic or Sony.
But for the record,, Panasonic kicks the Llama's ass!! 8)

Also, because other manufacturers have licensed it before... Canon has LANC on their camcorders, etc.
IMHO, Panasonic really made a mistake by not including some form of focus control. It didn't have to be LANC, but it does have to have remote focus. Hopefully in the next cameras they release they'll rectify this, and go one step further -- we want remote IRIS control too! :)

LOL - but ...never buy an Arriflex, Panaflex or MovieCam because you will be very dissapointed.

Why? Over my years I've owned about 20 different movie cameras, of (lesser) various types, and haven't been disappointed yet. No remote control on any of 'em of any type, but the type of things I'd shoot on them didn't demand that type of control.
But today's shooting styles demand different tools for different jobs. Not every job is a staged feature film, sometimes you shoot concerts, live events, industrials, training films, conventions, sports... heck, people even shoot dance recitals and weddings with these cameras. Autofocus, power zoom, remote focus and remote iris control would all be very handy in those circumstances. And the camera would be better WITH the feature than WITHOUT it. And it was a mistake to not include remote focus control on the DVX100.
I agree with Barry. ;D
Other one asks ¿Can I use my DVx´s remote control and to use it in a Sony TRV33?
Thank you
I doubt very much that it would be cross compatible.

Remote focus? That's easy.
