Does anybody know if Japanese NTSC (or DV) standard is different from North American? Any reason why DVX100A made for Japan market won't work in US?

Thanks in advance.

Japanese NTSC uses a setup of 0 instead of 7.5 IRE.

But since the camera has a setting to change that, it shouldn't be a problem, right?

Considering you should have the setup set to 0 anyway, I wouldn't think so.

But you should get a North American model.

Unless it's a good price.

The company I work for already got one. The price was good (around $2300 from what I heard). I'm just checking whether there could be any issues down the road. Except for warranty of course, I do realise that. ;D

The setup issue is a non-event for digital recording. For almost every conceivable application, your DVX should be set at SETUP 0 anyway.

Setup only enters the picture on conversion to an analog format. For shooting, editing, and making DVD's, setup should always be at zero.

I guess it's a keeper then, thanks for all your responses.

Three things that are of importance. *1. You have no UL approval, or CL *approval, depending on US or Canada. *So should some electrical mishap take place, and it is traced back to the camera, your employer could be in a bad situation. *
2. You did not receive a copy of Magic Bullet for Editors.

3. and this is probably more important, your camera has no warranty here. *Your warranty is in Japan.

You have a product that for all intent and purposes is gray market.

Hope that helps,

Jan

Thanks for your reply, Jan. I do realise the "Gray Market" issue. Again, this is not my camera and not my desicion, I'm just a potential operator and would like to know what I should expect.
