I have shot in 60i and then brought the clip into a 24pa timeline in Premiere Pro 1.5.1 -- I slowed the footage down to 40% (like Barry's book instructs) and it looked fantastic in the timeline when I played it back.

However, when I export the file to .avi, the slow-motion looks jittery and jerky... while everything else looks great. I have made sure I am exporting in 24pa.

Also, when I right click my .avi file and choose properties, it tells me my framerate is 29 fps.

So confused... and the horrorfest deadline is here...

When you export your project, under the "Export Video Settings", "Video" tab; what "Frame Rate" is shown (29.97 or 23.976 fps)?

23.976 however i just discovered that if i uncheck the "deinterlace video" box, the slow-mo shows up just fine. however, the whole video has interlacing artifacts. this is even with the progressive scan selected.

By the use of the phrase "..the whole video..." is this even the portion that isn't over-cranked? I assume that this didn't occur before working on this sequence?

You may want to render your slow-motion sequence as a separate pass, export it using the proper pull up (3:2:2:3) and then reincorporate it into your main timeline.
