Just finished my first day of shooting with the HVX, looks great, but I got back and looked at what I acquired and, when looking at the footage in FCP 5.1, the clips have half circles by them instead of full circles in the import "panasonic p2" media manager AND to make matters worse, the clips play back as if I'm watching a high resolution internet video on a dial up connection- all choppy. Anyone know what gives and how I avoid this from happening again? Please write back soon, we're shooting again in 12 hours. Barry, I bought your book, maybe a little help here? Lol. Thanks!!!

I defer FCP questions to those FCP experts who have the right answers...

No idea what the half circles are, never seen them, can't find any documentation on that yet.

Where exactly are you looking at this footage? In the P2 Import window? What Mac are you on, how much RAM? Are you ingesting from P2 cards in a card slot, or from P2 cards in the camera, or from an FS-100?

Ingest them as normal, see how they play back in the Viewer when opened from the Browser. I've noticed that the playback window in the P2 Import window gets low priorety for CPU access. My feeling is Apple threw this in as a quick look type of gadget, not a full rez playback device.

Not sure what half circles mean. But if you just ingest the footage, it should be just fine when you go to work editing in a real Seqeunce.

i imported clips in FCP 5.1.2 from FS100 and some circles went full and others stayed half, but the clips worked fine (all of them).
Maybe they'll fix that at some time but I don't think it has to do with clips not being entirely ingested. They all worked OK in time lines at different settings 1080 or 720 or diff frame rates, so....

Everything is revealed in in the "HD and Broadcast formats" PDF you can access from the FCP Help menu.

Flip to page 75 for P2 import....

The half circles must be a screen re-draw bug. I can't duplicate it, I can't find anyone who's see that before. I just wouldn't worry about it. If the clips play fine, don't sweat it.

I wondered the same thing and somehow figured out that the half circles/full circles /empty circles refer to how much of the clip you've decided to import (where you set your in/out points).
