Is shooting in 480i Squeeze mode on an HVX the equivalent of shooting 480i with an anamorphic adapter on a DVX?

Yes but higher res and a lot less hassle!

"squeeze" on the HVX = full native 16:9.

I stuck my DVX anamorphic on the HVX and it seems to work also but you have to figure out how to get it to stay on. I am going to try this in the next day or two to see what I get.

Barry, I have a problem with some footage I need to use and hopefully uprez to 980 x 720. I was shooting a key scene with the HVX (720/24pn) I was tapping out of the A/V outputs (set to 480i)feeding a Sony PD100A for back-up in case there was a p2 problem. Sure enough, the files were lost on 2 key scenes. As you know, the Sony was squeezing the native 16 x 9 to 4 x 3. I have had to convert the dv footage first to 24p with Dvfilm/Maker but obviously it looks pretty washed out as 16 x 9 because of the lack of pixels. I also attempted to import into PPro 2.0 and run Instant HD then export as a CFHD avi file for the editor who is using Avid. It won't open on his system, only a white screen comes up. For now just a clean 16 x 9 24p QT file would suffice as long as I could bring back some sharpness and black levels. Any thoughts would be a lifesaver.
