Good luck!

Peter, your makeup is looking great. I'm liking the sunken in eyes. The old wood door is also a nice addition, it's something I'll need to think about for a period vampire flick I'm thinking about. I look forward to seeing it.

Very eerie pics. Looks like you went to a lot of trouble to get costumes.
Peter Murphy
10-05-2006, 01:01 PM
I actually had all the costume stuff already, and I just told the lead actress to bring a couple dresses that fit the basic idea of what I wanted, and picked one out. I have a reasonable collection of old hats and coats, I think they come in handy visually - they can't really help with a poorly written story though :embarasse

Peter, I tried two different "Mirrors" and each one crashes my Quicktime about 2/3 of the way in... Sucks, I was all excited to see what happens and then a kick to the stomach. Any body else having this problem?
Peter Murphy
10-05-2006, 03:11 PM

Oh, okay... then it isn't just me! Crashed 2/3 of the way through.
I'd like to share my comments on what I did see. I will post more when I see the rest, but I just have to say that I love your style and cinematography work. I especially love that long shot with her sitting infront of what looks like a train station or something. The sky is awesome and the balance of the framing is just beautiful.
Can't wait to see the rest!!!

Ok. Finished watching this one. I really don't know many people around this forum, but if you are not doing music videos, YOU SHOULD BE! I really like the look of this film. The overall story was just okay and there were some bits in there that came somewhat out of left field, but what really knocked me out is the composition of the shots. Just awesome. The editing was also top notch on this one. I like the first song very much and it definitely fit the mood of the film, YOUNG AND HIP!
Good job.

Very cool Peter.
Looked really nice and some great comps.
Also liked the acting with the exception of one or two small beats.
Not sure the story held together for me in the end, but all in all really enjoyed it!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. I wasn't even going to enter the contest....I had another story I wanted to do - it was the back story for a music video I'm doing (my first one), that was quite a bit better, but I didn't have the time or resources to shoot it before the contest. So one night about a week before the deadline, I couldn't sleep and decided I HAD to do something. I pulled it together as best I could and came up with this. However it turned out, it's mine, I made it and I'm happy that it got done. I really just can't wait to shoot another one.

OK Got it from the mirror sites as a single file.
Really liked it man! I'm a big fan of music video clips and this was a music video by all means. Dont know if that's what you wanted it to look like but hey, its a big achievement!
I didnt like the in-between scenes with the 'reality check'...normal colors, normal clothes and all that....I would prefer if you kept it the same except for the end when she wakes up of course.
The story is nice but your ending was kinda enigmatic in a negative way. Since you wanted it to end with something sudden, maybe you could have done something more concrete than just a 'we dont have a brother' line. Isabella was perfect! I really liked her!!!
Your cinematography was one of the best and as I said, it was like a music video, clever editing! I loved the beast but here is the thing....its not clear what's his purpose....and when he whacked her its very quick so you could have gone another way to make it easier for the viewer to follow that...
PS. Man you should definitely watch the following video MORTIIS - PARASITE GOD...it will remind you of your movie...especially the beast in the video looks exactly like yours!!!
PS2. One of the best scores in here, loved all the songs and would definitely want them on my mp3 player to listen to all the time!!!

Good looking stuff. I loved the "whispering" segments and the "other" Isabella (standing their with her hands up) it’s great shot and concept. Now as far the as the "reality check" part, I think it works because it's kinda of breaking the dream (to a happy past)... but it does jump out… maybe it could have been more distorted or blown out looking, keeping it within the dream look.
I like how your CC changes (and I'm not sure if you meant to do this) but it makes it feel more dreamy that the color schemes are constantly changing... I might have gone with something a little more noticeable during a shot... maybe like your "cornered" black borders "Pulsating " getting bigger and smaller and maybe the color changing slightly on a static shot (like the movie "Man on Fire")... this may have been a bit stylized but would have worked for a dream sequence and would have made it look more like it was on purpose and fluid in a chaotic way.
I thought your costume design and creature effects were great (as usual) and there was some good composition of shots too. I liked you locations. I recognized most of them, but where was the ending where Isabella get’s hunted by the beast? I thought that was a great choice for a location.
So all that being said, it’s great stuff for being put together at the last minute. I can't wait to see your future stuff and if you ever need any help with a future project, let me know.

Peter! This was an eerie film. I agree that it felt very new and edgy. I liked the "narrator"/person talking in front of the green scary stuff. I thought the villain worked well.
*********SPOILER*********
I thought the ending was great! Makes you wonder whether she had a brother and the scary axe man took him, or whather it was all a dream. Interesting stuff. You also had some great visuals and cinematography! Congrats dude!

Weird creepy Villain, Peter. The all a dream thing is kinda odd. Great Cinematography going on!

I only watched about the first half of it so far.
Having said that I liked what I saw. You have a cool style. Gothic and dark, but enjoyable and amusing. I dunno...reminds me of Tim Burton a bit. I saw your Hitler short awhile back..... pretty great.
Anyway. The first song was good. I liked the scenes of the girl walking looking for her brother. The missing sign was cool. I'm not sure how the story ends...so I have to go and try to watch the rest of it. Tis good so far.

Finally got to see it thanks to Jeremy.
All style, no substance. I loved the look of it and the editing was pretty good too.
But the story was really bad (I also think the guy would be a bit more concerned about her thinking they had a brother named steven)...and the acting wasn't awesome either.
Excellent look to the movie though, loved the gothic feel. Good job. :)

Peter,
I like your style man. I didn't care for this movie in particular and understand you threw it together quickly, but I thought the comps were super man. The CC and compositions are Burtonish, and I really like it. Between this and your zombie entry, I can see a definite style, which isn't an easy thing to do. Congrats on that.

Acting: Loved the look of your lead.
Script: A little loose in places but interesting never-the-less.
Direction: developing a nice style here.
Music: Interesting.
Editing: A little choppy in places.
Lighting: Loves those muted cols. + Tasty shot choices.
Loved: The bowler hat, some of the shot choices loved that wide, the fact you have a strong artistic identity.
Hated: How she found that skull, how the monster just popped into the storyline,
Overall: String artistry here. Look forward to future spooky projects.
