From what I understand the echo heard while recording in 24p cant be eliminated. Is this true? I'm not having any sync issues, I'm just wondering if there is a setting or something so I don't have to hear the delay/echo in my headphones while I'm recording. thanks to all!

Thanks guys, this was the fix

I think that it is part of the delay of which I am experiencing with the synch problem. There should be an echo I believe in 24p and 24pa.

What you are likely defining as an "echo" is simply the processing delay. This is normal and expected as there is a necessary latency to assemble the delivery sequence with the cadence choosen (24P or 24PA).

This should no way cause any "sync problem" as both the audio and video have the same delay.

look at the other posts on my synch problem. Jan even admitted that there sometimes are frame delays in the sound.

With all due respect, I have recorded in 24P a lot with no audio sync issues. The delay you are hearing is INDEED processing delay and can not be avoided. It is while monitoring only. It is the nature of the beast. (Digital audio that is...try doing that in Protools without the low latency monitoring option on)
Cheers

There are two issues here.
1) If you are referring to a delay in the sound there is a setting in the AV set up menu that can be changed. Go to AV set up menu> HP mode > recording.
2) The other issue is if you are shooting something from a distance but have a wireless mic or boom picking up sound from the source and being fed to the camera inputs then you could be hearing an echo or delay from the sound being picked up by the on camera mic that is now recording on channles 3 & 4 as that sound will be out of sync with the lav/boom mics by about 1 millisecond for every 1 foot you are away from the source.

Av In/Out Setup Settings - HP (HeadPhones) Mode --> LIVE (audio directly from the audio input circuitry with no buffering). With the setup RECORDING you'll most probably hear an echo.
