I was just wondering if Red had made any thoughts about realeasing 4k and 2k raw data test footage for users to experiment on?

Basically a dvd we could purchase that would allow us the opportunity well in advance of the camera's release to test our setups and find solutions for editing/color correction etc.

Sorry if this was discussed before in the workflow thread or other.

I will go out on a limb and say no. That would mean they would have to release the Codecs and Tools to use the RAW data before they've finished production path.

Then they would have a massive support task helping people get it working. If it doesn't work perfectly, they lose people. If they released it too early and it has bugs, they lose people. Really, it's a lose lose all the way around.

Even if it was 4k footage in a currently available codec? Just so that people can test their setup of FCP or whatever on large format footage?

I'm not asking for a prerelease of RedCine and I don't mean right now either. I just thought that there'd be alot of people who have worked with HD and DV footage before but not 4k or even 2k, and having some footage available to play with without Red having to host massive files on their website. That's all I was meaning.

If it isn't possible then that's fair enough and would probably be one reason why Red haven't hosted any footage on their website yet.

Hi,

I have also thought that they will realeased some footage and not only stills, on their web site.
But for the moment their video gallery page is "under dev", so it might mean that they are going to release some footage.

I think it will be interesting to see some moving pictures shot with the RED cam, in any codec (as I couldn't be at IBC).
Stills is good, but moving picture is better, no?

ciao,
antoine.

Even if RED cannot do it now; I think it prudent they make this part of the game plan once final footy is available.

It's be a fair approach to the marketplace and the RED cult.

I think they could start a BETA program on REDCINE when they are ready and supply us with some 4K Footage enconded in their codec for testing and evaluation... It would be cool...

Yeah a Beta program is more like what I was thinking Taubkin, I just couldn't be bothered putting my brain into gear to think so sensibly :)
