Yeah just got the confirmation email. Sometime in the last week of October (wouldnt confirm exact date). Anyway in addition Im attending a seminar Friday October 6th for the A1 / G1 only 25 invites so pretty happy about that. I should be able to pull some additional footage at that point, however feel a little reluctant to do so as I dont want to put up crappy footage for the sake of doing so when a short time later I can put up higher quality stuff.
Also just trying to sort my M2 order out now I guess Ill be forst to use it with this cam or close to it anyway, so will post footage with and without m2 as soon as I possibly can.

You should try to find out about the best settings being used by H1 users so that you can use them on this camera while you make the tests.

ncje,
That's good news--it'll be great to see some images from your camera.
As far as the settings...it's very easy to figure out how to tweak the camera. With the XL-H1 my favorite setting is very simple.
--Cinegamma2,
--Color Gain of +1 or +2, (this will increase apparent CA if you have high contrast foreground/background images in the shot...but I like to boost saturation a little when recording HDV)
--Sharpness -2 or -3 (it's true, the H1 is a bit overly edge-enhanced by default. It shows even more in the F modes and can create some noticeable jaggies on thin diagonals so beware and turn sharpness down a bit)
--Knee=Low (smooths highlight rolloffs somewhat)
--Black--middle or press--I happen to like the press mode because it lightly crushes the blacks but makes for very appealing contrast in-camera.
And pretty much every other setting at zero. Try to shoot at -3 dB but don't be afraid to use the gain if needed. The increased noise is fairly mild all the way up to +12 dB.
Lastly, I don't recommend the noise reduction modes (but they maybe improved in the A1) as they tend to soften the picture or make things look a little plastic. That said, NR2 can be helpful in super-lowlight if you don't mind sacrificing a little sharpness.

I'd humbly suggest going for max. dynamic range with Knee - HIGH and Black - STRETCH settings for the test, just to verify how much the camera can see. If it looks better to your eye, please follow Elton's suggestions or your own preferences.
Oh, of course please compare interlaced vs F mode and let us know how it feels.
Good luck with the test and don't worry if you won't have a chance to catch some quality footage. We will be waiting patiently counting days to Oct 6 to at least hear your impressions.
Thanks!

If you're getting it end of October... does that mean the A1 ships later than October here in the U.S?

I checked the website and it says there £2348. I find very hard to belive this camera can be found anywhere for £1354 (2000€/2500us$). It's £1000 less than it's original price! Now, £2348 is closer to reality.

Rawfa, read carefully, he said dabs made a typo so they sold it to him for that much. Regardless of the confusion £2348 for a camera that does REAL HD, it's an amazing price.

Well considering that the official canon dealer creativevideo.co.uk are saying November 15th for the A1E delivery, I doubt you're going to get the A1 anytime soon.

Well Im afraid I have some bad news :( Today I was held up working and missed the seminar by about two hours. I did contact them however and let them know about the multitudes of people waiting to see real footage... there is a small chance I can get my hands on it by the end of next week to shoot some stuff.
Sorry for all those eagerly waiting but was an unavoidable situation - talking about $$ in my pocket here.
