very newbie question/problem here. i just got my HVX the last week and have been shooting random footage and when i hooked up the component video cables that came with it to my television it has no audio and the picture is in black and white. on my hvx everything is fine and plays in color with awesome sound.
do i need to get an s-video cable or something in order to watch my footage on my TV?

Me thinks you have a the components hooked up wrong or your cable is bad.

sounds like you plugged in your component cables into the composite input. There's no audio because component cables don;t send audio, just video over 3 cables, red, green, and blue. Does you're TV have red green and blue component inputs?

Just hook it up via: (not sure what they are called)
Red-right audio
White-left audio
Yellow-video
The jacks are somewhat hidden on the "tape" side right behind the XLR's.

okay cool, that works, i just used the yellow/white/red cables i already had. i assumed the component cables would work as well since it came with the camera.
:dankk2:
what device are the component cables usually hooked up too where i would only need to see video?

The component cable does work but you have to hook it up to a component input on a TV/Monitor. It does not carry audio so you would still need a stereo cable hooked up to the red and white audio out jacks on the right side of the camera. The Yellow jack is outputting a composite signal which is only standard def. If you want to see the images in hi-def, then you have to use the component cable supplied with the camera and hook it up to a hi-def tv/monitor and in the "av in/out" menu settings make sure it is set to 1080 or 720.
