Hi, I'm working on an indie feature and found two of our clips were not ingested into FCP 5.0.4. When I went back to check our media drive which contains our original P2 footage as downloaded off the cards, the missing takes have MXF video and audio files on the drive, but no corresponding XML files.
The XML files provide the info that FCP needs it identify the footage and ingest it. How can I recreate these XML files for the video clips? Someone suggested putting them back onto a P2 card, then re-inserting them in the camera, and re-downloading them. Sounds wonky to me. Suggestions?

Putting them back onto the card and checking them out in the camera sounds like a decent enough plan actually. At least if the HVX will view it and play it back without any problems you at least know you will in someway be able to get to it. But as you mentioned FCP that means you're on a Mac. Getting the raw contents back onto a P2 card from a Mac is easier said than done. In fact I've yet to see a post that gives detailed confirmation on the success of such.
If you have access to any other NLE's at all, you might want to try their workflows and see if you can get the materials into them. Again, helping to show that the clips are okay. And then perhaps using that NLE to export out something that you can use with your FCP setup. Perhaps not the most ideal scenario I'm sure, but if you need the stuff bad enough....
cheers.

sorry for not replying sooner, but thanks for the good word. I have brought the footage into Avid successfully, but it will not export to Quicktime. At least, the system I've been using is not properly exporting a copy to Quicktime. Going to try another system. If that doesn't work, then I might try just crash recording to DVCProHD tape, but we're afraid that there still might be slight quality loss. Does Panasonic have a work around for when this happens?!?!?
