The blacks on the 959 shoot are solid as, can hardly see any noise.

One of the reasons for the delay is that we needed to get back from IBC and work on the sensor characterization and REDCINE. We found lots of things that help us out. Improved dynamic range, ISO and clearling of artifacts. The posted shots represent old shots with the new REDCINE updates. Just wait for the new shots!

Jim, I dont know if my gamma is unusally high or youv'e purposely lifted up the gamma to show shadow detail, but they do appear slightly bright. Might do with some level adjustment perhaps. It's a good thing though because you get to see all the detail in the image.

You may consider putting that little profile blurb on the gallery page.

What was the exposure on the Porsche shot?

959 shot was a frame grab from 24fps at 1/48th sec. Check out orange power chord on right that was NOT lit.

Heheh, crap. That's all I'm gonna get, isn't it?

Just in case it isn't, over-clarification: what T-stop was the lens set to? ;-) Sorry, I'm so used to 1/48th that I take it for granted.

dang Jim, i'm utterly impressed by the images the sensor produces. kudos my man....you are going to revolutionize the industry...........for real.

949 was shot between f4 and f5.6. Girls were shot at f4. Focus is in FRONT of the girls on the hands and lighter.

Fantastic, thank you. Focus on the 959 was at the bottom of the windshield, yes?

Love the color rendition on these.

Very excited.

I think the term digital cinema is so apt. It seems to combine the best of both worlds. Rich colors and curve, but grainless pictures.

Of course this is only a preliminary judgement, but as a RED # holder, it's like watching your prize race horse workout. You know, you're watching the stop watch and sayin' somethin' like holy s**t.!

Look forward to more varied testing and clips.

RED # wish I was higher

Although the still doesn't really do justice to the nature of the shot :-) The girls weren't very experienced "cigar lighters", and fell into laughter.

Which was actually a nice moment during the first IBC screening. The room was filled with tension, and the first shots were ultra smooth and clean, and then there were these girls mucking about with the cigar and you could hear muffled laughter and giggling through the room. Which probably was exactly why Jim chose to show this take. It looked darn good at 4k though.

The full clip which included the watch, the girls, a man smoking a cigar, gum bubble blowing and the car played 4K in the IBC Digital Cinema on a Sony 4K projector.

The same clip was running in the booth on a 1080 plasma screen and in 2K on an Apple display.

A short section of the car clip was playing on a Viewsonic (almost) 4K monitor to show off the dynamic range and an early development version of the REDCODE codec.

Pretty impressive that the light is in the shot itself. Look how nicely it rolls off on the car and how much detail is still visible in the shadows. You can also just see the light behind car's mirror on the right, which is pointing *towards* the camera! You can see how it blends nicely with the mirror itself instead of harsh blownout highlights.

man... that porsche is hardly lit.. the light is covered with this black cloth shade thing.. yet you can still see the porsche.. and its between f4-f5.6.. simply.. wow.

How did you do that? No matter how many times I click it, I can only see the small 1440x810 pixel thumbnail. I think it's rather cute that there are cameras that deliver that image size as their final resolution. I guess those must be nice for quick pre-visualizations and the like. :)

I'm sure he's seeing the same thing we're all seeing; he probably just has a monitor with a low screen resolution. The name of the image is called "still-downsize-for-web," because obviously it's been downrezzed from its native 4K size, but if you had a monitor set to 800x600 or 1024x768 even the downsized image would be larger than the screen.

My laptop is native 1920x1200 and the Dell monitor is 2560x1600, so I can't wait to see those full-sized 4K images showing up soon! Then even those will be too big for my desktop! Darn it, I need to start saving for a bigger monitor.

My wallet is not going to be very happy come Q1 2007. :2vrolijk_08:

Hey Jim, Graemme, RED Team,

Thank you so much for the downsized images but there are many of us out here who can display a full 2k image at least and are ready to look at some, say, 2k-sized frame grabs. I'm trying to sell the Executive Producer of our next project on RED and have nothing to really show her but the website. She is skeptical of a relatively unproven company and understandably wants some 2k (or at least HD-size) images. Any idea of when these are coming?

"Thank you so much for the downsized images but there are many of us out here who can display a full 4k image"

oh realllly. you have a 4k monitor??
ummm. i think many may display 1080p...but 4k? The highest res lcd screen is the viewsonic which is close to 4k but no cigar. then there is the projector that is 4k by sony.

hehe, buuut I get the gist of what you mean dvxsandiego. you want bigger files. Yeah, some 1080p grabs/footage would be splendid.

Jim already stated that he will have new footage posted next week..so I am sure we'll get some goodies next week.

Anyone notice the 3 or possibly 4 black (or deep gray) specks on the image of the car? They don't look to be on the image surface, per se. I just happened to notice them. wondering what they were. At first, I thought maybe someone needed to wash their car, but one black speck within the windshield is probably the most noticable and kinda made me wonder what it is.
Anyways, there are 3 for sure. One in the windshield and two others, that look the same. A fourth one could just be reflection. It doesn't quite look the same.
See if you can spot them. Where's Waldo?

when i visualize from the windows it appears that aliasing but only into the 959 grab.. but not as presentation.. there, it is gorgeous! 0% of aliasing..

The footage coming from the sensor does not have dead pixel correction applied. So that's what you are probably seeing (every sensor has dead pixels before they are mapped out).
