This may come as a bit of a stupid question, but hey, there is no such thing as a stupid question.

Here it is: Since 720p/24pN or 720p/24p is 40mbps, will it be possible to record it to tape inside HVX such as AY-DVM63AMQ ???

If not, what other configurations at 24fps can be recorded to Tape using HVX200?

Is Tape 25mbps? If so what HD or not HD can be recorder at 24fps???

I'm asking this because it seems that I will have to wait for few months before large enough P2s arrive.

PS: I'm in UK... so it's PAL

If you're stuck waiting on the camera and are so interested in the details of its various settings you may wish to download its manual online. You can do so for free. Give that a quick read and you can get a better understanding of a lot of things. Also then, you might be able to ask more specific questions to help your understanding of it.

The manual is available at:

ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/Drivers/PBTS/manuals/OM_AG-HVX200.pdf

And if you have an potential workflow issues, do some searching for white papers by whichever NLE you're using. Apple has a pretty decent one for FCP.

cheers.

The PAL camera does not shoot 24p at all. It shoots 25p.

But no, it can't be recorded to tape. Only DV can be recorded to tape.

Barrys book is a good investment at this stage also.
I sense from this and your other postings you have a slight misconception about HD and the HVX and I can not blame you for it because I was in the same boat recently. I now have my camera and very glad I did my homework which included poring over Barrys Book. Compulsory reading for the last week and now with the HVX Manual beside my bed. There is a lot to take on board.

HD and the HVX requires a number of changes to be made from the way you did or thought about things in DV (or film).

I think you're mixing up fps and Mbps. Tape is 25Mbps, but if you're recording 25p (that is 25fps in PAL land - there's NO 24p) you can do that at 25Mbps in DV on tape or P2 and DVCPRO25/50/HD only on P2. The limitations are in the heads bandwith, thpe speed and servo controls - way to complex to explain here. Enough to tell that DVCPRO HD needs 16 heads to get to tape whereas DV needs only 4. Pricetag on HD transport is around $6-7000, hence the price difference between a DV deck and a DVCPRO HD one (not even talking about the Varicam).
