Well, my man, you are a patient guy! With slick, edgy graphic design like that, I wouldn't be able to wait so long to post it if it were mine! If your film's half as cool as what we've seen so far, this one could be the sleeper hit of HorrorFest!
mameragex
09-21-2006, 01:13 AM
As long as I get to show it. I'll be happy. Don't get me wrong though "I WANT THAT CAMERA." But I hope this all plays in my favor. And oh YESS...If you like the graphics,WAIT till you see the film! Only If!!! and thats a powerful IFF I can make it in time.

I just reduced the size of the banner.....Sorry if I was eating you guys screen space. I didn't know there was a banner limit. This will be my first entry and as well as my first time ever posting this much on any site. For some reason posting here gives me a strange burst of energy from an average day. Anyway....The movie is well on it's way. still in edit and fill shoot mode. I'm Sure I can make it.

I'm finally starting to check out some of these HorrorFest entries/promos ... makes me wish I was enterting this time around ... stinks that this will be the first one I sit out. :(
Oh well, back to THE WAITING KINDRED.
Jack's always really held my interest in his promotions/graphics works, and he'll do well in this fest for attention just because of his proven skills in the past, and folks know he can deliver the goods.
While you however are totally unproven as a filmmaker (at least from what myself or others have seen), your graphics work is THE BEST I've ever seen on here, period ... not among the best, but simply the best. Period.
I'm in utter awe at your banner, but especially that poster. Nice FLASH animation work you've got on the site. All absolutely 1st rate pro stuff. My only concern is that the expectation get set so incredibly high with graphics work like this, that anything short of equaly quality or better on grabs/final footage may be anti-climatic or disappointing.
So don't do what MOVIE MASTER has done in his thread ... the grabs I've seen there made me lose complete interest in the film. If you aren't completely confident in the footage/grabs, don't post 'em before the contest. Otherwise, if you know they'll rock our world just like the graphics we've seen so far, it'd do you well to post one a day until the films are available for viewing.
You'll have so much heat & attention building on this thread as folks check back daily it'll be nuts.
That said, so far I am REALLY REALLY REALLY looking forward to seeing this film. Outstanding presentation so far!
Ralph Oshiro

MOVIE MASTER posted some grabs? THIS, I gotta see!

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=69290&page=38
I'd normally never post links to one person's thread from another, but this should actually only 'help' THE WAITING KINDRED, as no one is impressed with the grabs they see on those pages. :)

PLEASE DON"T LINK TO OTHER POST HERE! Plus movie bast...Opps I mean master gives me the creeps! And so does his screenshots!

Oh YEEAAAAHH!!!!! I didn't wanna say all that myself.....seeing the heat & ridicule others have gotten for being so cocky. But Yessss! My BILLBOARD and ANIMATED SITE is only the beginning! My only regret is that I feel that I may have put too much effort into this one project. MOre than anything I was so upset last year when I couldn't get in the zombie fest. That I bought a camera shortly after, Just to get in this year. Only to gain some sort of approval on my over all skills. I am what many have called a "broken millionaire" cause with the skills I have...I should be rich, It's just rare to find an outlet for my talents.
I am a Multi-media MASTER artist, And that's what I'm here to prove(plus I NEED that camera:Drogar-Evil(DBG):)..... As far as grabs go they will be coming soon or if we are allowed I may just put up a preview trailer if time permits.....An even more amazing feature of this film will be revealed closer to it's premiere. Oh and as I said before the billboard on front is hiding the FINAL POSTERS.
I've been getting a lot of views (Not many post but a lot of views..whats up with that?) on this post and I really hope people are keeping me in their list of first FIVE movies to see. TRUST ME...IT WILL BE WORTH IT. But do me a favor. it's best to come view my movie with low expectations that way, either You'll be blown away by the magic of a spectacular feature :shocked:or you wont walk away so disappointed.:zombie_smiley:

mameragex
09-25-2006, 12:57 AM
If I post pics...they wont do what you will see any justice. Not that I'm all hot air...It's just that the only pics I can post without giving away my story or plot, and the grabs I can show will probably only show simple three point lighting techniques. I've been trying to figure out a way to do this in a unique way and haven't had time to find a solution.....I guess until I figure out a way to do this.
Brandon Rice
09-25-2006, 01:33 PM
post some grabs... lets see the goods.
mameragex
09-25-2006, 01:35 PM
Does anyone know if or when we can post trailers? If not, do you think It would spoil the movie if we do.
Brandon Rice
09-25-2006, 01:38 PM
You cannot post ANY moving footage that will appear in your final film... so unless you use ALL DIFFERENT shots in your trailer, you can't post it.
mameragex
09-25-2006, 04:34 PM
Thats cool....but here's a lil something to wet your palate. Not a full grab but it gives you a glimpse. just a small one!

09-25-2006, 05:03 PM
Thanx....But If you haven't caught on yet.. These are only teasers. I'm purposely not showing grabs due to lil copycats like "BooBie Blaster" or what ever his name is!(I had an original poster up that I quickly took down due to this. It will be reposted later this week) This way, I know people are curious and DYING to see what I got... Trust me...I will try my BEST to not let you down (or kill you)...Just don't ever CALL ME A COPPYCAT or COMPARE ME WITH ONE!:Drogar-Vampire(DBG)
Matt Sconce
09-25-2006, 05:26 PM
I think this will be an awesome film, if you put this much effort into the banners, imagine the movie! Copycat implies you saw something that was already out, and then duplicated it as well. Movie Master can not be a copycat of you as he was first, but at the same time, I do not think you are a copycat. I think your banners and tactics are new to the forum. I look forward to watching your film.
Brandon Rice
09-25-2006, 05:35 PM
I only commented on your other thread you kept bumping in the main horror forum... anyway, good luck, looking forward to your film.
Norm Sanders
09-25-2006, 05:40 PM
I DIG the graphics & stuff you have, but eye candy can only carry you so far. For me, pomp & circumstance stuff can get old really quick, so if you're going to talk such a big game, then throw up a grab or two.
There's no way that ONE frame out of THOUSANDS will give away your story. Sheesh, it could be a CU of a phone with killer lighting & DOF, and it will at least be something to know that you can deliver the goods visually within the film as well vs. just Photoshop.
And quit being paranoid about Movie Master, unless you guys have some kind of connection. There's litterally no comparison, other than how much you guys promise that yours will be the best.
I dig the humble folks that simply let their work, and their peers, speak for them. Those will be the films I'll watch first, then the rest as they fall or as I have the time. For the past three festivals, I've watched EVERY single film, and commented in EVERY single thread ... hope I can still manage to pull that off this time as well, though I'm not convinced if there's 100+ entries.
Brandon Rice
09-25-2006, 05:43 PM
I doubt 100+ will make it through, and I agree with you Norm, one frame won't ruin your film... out of context it only confuses the viewer more... I'd like to see what you got...
Norm Sanders
09-25-2006, 05:48 PM
Hmm, not sure Brandon. I bet there's a lot of entries that haven't bothered to announce & may simply drop theirs in on the 1st. Just a hunch I have.

Yeah maybe i should retract that statement! I was replying(twice). Not that I feel he's copied my movie (Unless he really is the devil:zombie_smiley:) I was talking about my poster links in the Horror Fest forum. He didn't have those at first. I'm not gonna hate on i'm for it though (cause if he did then i give him my most humble apologies 999).

MY FELLOW DVXUSERS, I AM SAD TO ANNOUNCE, "THE WAITING KINDRED" WILL BE PULLED FROM THE HORROR FEST:(. WHY YOU ASK...
TIME: WITH A VERY HEAVY WORK SCHEDUAL WE (by we I mean I) ARE STILL IN MID EDIT OF OUR FILM (EFFECS & ALL), AND WITH THE CLOSING DATE APPROCHING, I DON'T SEE A COMPLETE MOVIE BY SUNDAY OR MONDAY:crybaby:.
HOW: I STARTED MID LAST MONTH BUT HAD SO MUCH TO DO WITH SO LITTLE HELP, PLUS MY BOSS CAN CARE LESS ABOUT MY PERSONAL TIME OFF:Drogar-Smoke(DBG):.
WHAT NEXT: THIS IS AN AWSOME MOVIE (for an indie first time entry).. AND WELL WORTH THE WATCH. SO THE ENGINES WON'T STOP WITH THIS CONTEST, I GOT SO MANY PEOPLE ANTICIPATING IT'S COMPLETION THAT I'M AFFRAID OF WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN TO ME IF I DON'T. PLUS! THIS WAY I GET TO PUT BACK ALL THE STUFF I WAS HOLDING BACK ON. SO IT'S GONNA BE TWO TIMES BETTER!!! & MAYBE SLIGHTLY LONGER THAN 6MINS. I WILL FiND A WAY TO POST THE FINAL FILM SO EVERYONE WHO WAITED CAN ENJOY.
So on that note I'd like to wish all the remaining contestants GOOD LUCK!
THANKS FOR THE RIDE, IT WAS FUN!!

Thanks man.
I put a lot of work into my graphics & the movie. Though It's a short, hope people notice what i've done. I hope you like the move man. Let me know what you think after viewing. i would love to get some feed back. Just keep in mind upon watching: 1man 1 camera No crew! then, I think you'll appreciate it more. Either way this will be the first piece I'm satisfyed with. (it's not my original script, had to cut doen totry and make the deadline) But I'm extreamly satisfyed with it.
Yeah and as for the animated banner, I had a few of them. Here's a few others.

And yes "Movie Master" Even though the banner giveaway was aimed at those who kept pushing me to make it, Even when I was ready to quit. during this whole contest run. But as for me and you, we have crossed paths a few times and none have been bad. So yes "I'll put you on the list" for a banner. but you must provide the theme & concept or pics, then I can help you. This way, next time I won't be the only one with flashy graphics. (I will PM thank you's as soon a I get a chance this week. Dude, I am usually NOT a fan of digital effects, but this thing had such a aura of fun about it, it really won me over. And the animation in the beginning was fantastic.

Man too bad there is no VFX to the overall rating coz I admit, I gave you a 10! And the next highest score I gave was an 8 so far.
You are a master in VFX and you can pull some pretty sick stuff out of your head into the screen.
However your sound was no good. I know you did all by yourself and you deserve a lot of praise for it but if you paid more attention to sound levels and design you would have scored in my table a LOT higher. I also liked the score but you cut it quite abruptly so didnt get a chance to listen to it.
The intro with the graphics is awesome!
As for acting, you were great! Some really good stuff you did and were quite natural.
I left the screenplay for last. I dont know if there is a story in all this. But I dont care. I loved what I saw and hope to see you soon with a bigger and more complete project under your wings. Maybe try and work with someone else to boost each other's work! Good luck!

Let me say also you have great talent.
But I felt the whole pacing was off and story was confusing. It stared fairly slow building and as soon as it kicks into high gear its over. I didnt know what was going on and before I could get my head round it the credits were rolling.
This aside, it was definately worth watching and there was something about it that stuck with me after I had seen it. It had a nightmarish quality which I loved. Some moments of real potential in there. it was certianly freaky.

:thumbup:Thanks Buddy! Seeing the reviews most people got I was afraid when people get to my movie! Yeah as for the sound, there's some awsome sound effects in the feature but listening to them on pc speakers do no justice. Yeah but I know what you mean. I caught that early on and tried to get a fixed levels version to Jarred in time but it was too late. But Thanks man! This was all done in like a week tops so I didn't get to put a foot on those little notes till too late. Hopefully it was enough to get the point across.

VFX were rock solid in this film. Nicely done! I really liked the intro as well leading into us into the story.
I know you put this together fast and I'm looking forward to what else is done to this film, but what I feel you're missing the most with this current piece is a visual story. I say visual because the narration in the beginning lays the foundation for the story, but in terms of it's cinematic story, I'm not getting that far. I hope you don't take this the wrong way because I think you have a lot of talent and more importantly, drive. I guess what I want from this is more drama; more emotional beats that define your characters and the world they live in. Shots/scenes without vfx which concentrate on building relationships. If you can succesfully integrate those elements with your vfx; then you're gold. Then you'll be one of those guys who can pave his own road to success.

Geoff_R
10-06-2006, 05:25 AM
I understand you wanting the camera man but in my opinion, the HVX isn't 'that' superior to the DVX...now before I get eaten alive for saying that; I'm alluding to that in regards to the process of filmmaking in general.
When the DVX first came out some whatever years ago...I remember pulling it up at work and pointing out to my co-worker at the time, Brian, and going "you see this camera, If I had it, I could make movies! You have no idea!" I did this everyday and would next check out the G5s, again, every day... I've shot a lot of stuff with the DVX and starting to shoot with the HVX and sure it's a great resolution bump but storytelling is still storytelling, no matter which camera I'm holding. If someone smashed my HVX to pieces and forced me to make a movie with the DVX, I guarantee you that in the end, it'd be the exact same movie! It'd be the exact same story! There'd be a resolution loss, true, but great movies don't fall short due to a loss in resolution. I guess what I'm trying to say is, there are a lot of people out there who would die to have a DVX because then they too 'could make movies', and you've got one.
On the flipside (I tend to argue with myself sometimes...), you're a major VFX guy....so the increase in resolution is a little more valuable to you than the average person- BUT I think my general theory still applies...generally speaking of course :)
mameragex
10-06-2006, 05:37 AM
Yep! i agree with you 100%. And just as I was thinking it, you said it... It's a VFX help. Especially with green screen, so it would cut down tons of keying tweeks for the thinning out blur you get on fast motion. I also agree though. A good movie is still a good movie no matter what you shot it on. But I really want it cause I know what I could do with it.
Thanks man cool points. Now seeing that you got an HVX already...If you win you can donate it to the starving creative MAMERAGEX fund! lol:thumbsup:

Acting: Solid enough.
Script: A little light and confusing.
Direction: Good choice of shot’s.
Music: Thought the Spanish picking was a nice juxtaposition to the action.
Editing: Super tight! Superb!
Lighting: Very nicely done.
Loved: VFX (W.O.W.) The opening, The opening merging in with the live action, The blood track back (ACE!), Wall demon made me jump, door slamming (ACE again.), the death. The fact you did it own your own ++
Hated: It was just too short I wanted more, much more. Give us more!!! J

Okay I have a funny story for you as your movie is only one of three movies that made me feel this way.....
I was sitting at the computer thinking about the scene when the demon girl thing comes out halfway from the wall. It was really creeping me out and then I heard a noise in the house. I turned to see what it was, and my cell phone rings on vibrate, making this incredibly weird clacking noise against my keyboard. I jumped sooo high! I was really freaked! All thanks to you! :-)

They're so used to me doing happy lil home movies that I came over one night, popped it in and left the room. Oh that was priceless! I could hear my mom saying " Aw look at this that is so AHHHHHHH!!!:eek:" When I came back they both had such distorted shocked looks on their faces. And now they're mad at me cause I did't let them get a part in it.

that was a lot of fun and it looked kick ass
my favorite parts were the non scary parts though, not because that part wasn't really cool, but because I really liked the design aesthetic at the top with the Oriental type line drawings and I really liked the composition here. I liked all of it that was just my favorite in terms of visual elements
my 2nd fav part would be when one of you is holding his hand out of the door to the other one of you - I like the way the door shuts there and how that whole shot is framed

Hey dude, your entry was interesting. Neat Special Effects and stuff. I have to say that your person coming out of the wall reminded me of Silent Hill 4, where the person comes out of the wall the same way. Just something I noticed.

I'm not sure where to start here. This one is completely all over
the place. I'm not even sure this can be defined as a short but,
rather more of an interlude.
I wish I could share some of the excitement that others have had
with this one but, I can't. I know this is a one man effort but,
I do not need to be beaten over the head with credits proclaiming
that fact in excess. Please show some semblance of modesty.
I liked the plot idea but, I think it was written from the
perspective of pop music rather than what could be found in ancient
texts. After the narration the story stumbles to a stop where one
of the main characters injects a bit of a comedy relief followed
by video game style looks and action then... followed by credits
in under 1:38.00secs w/spanish guitar? I'm so confused because it
all feels so unfocused and most likely unfinished.
Now to the effects. Correct me if I'm wrong but, I believe you
used AE as your compositing program. The opening animation feels
chunky, nonuniform and lacks the camera zeal that AE can deliver.
Study what www.Psyop.tv (http://www.Psyop.tv) has completed and you'll see what I'm referencing.
The open could have used some of the textures and vibrant qualities
from the poster. The presentation of the box, ring & chain felt
out of place in the animation too. Maybe these items could have
been better served as illustrations instead of actual photos/video.
The red and black bg seems to use the well known PS texturizer effect
which is a canned effect. Try using actual paper texture if possible.
The grass seems to be low res and the blur accentuates that. Up the
res or scale down and use more layers.
As far as the 3d goes it's pretty standard fare. You show great
understanding of 3d space but, the final rendered scene is not very
believable and varies greatly to the actual dvx footage. Don't under
estimate the challenge of plate matching! GI/HDRI kicks ass if you
have the time.
Now I know I've come off pretty strong here but, you have to
understand that I take my job as an fx artist pretty seriously.
I think most of what I've said is constructive and is no different
from the comments I make everyday to clients and colleagues. Drop
me a pm and I'd be glad to discuss fx stuff with you.
Good effort though mameragex and I look forward to your next project.

Oh that must be why your movie sucks so much. Talk about my movie, but damn! you did realize this was a horror fest contest and not a boring over-narrative sad excuse for a movie that no one would bother to watch on regular tv! Oh and since you're giving me tips! How about finding a way to tell the story without telling the story literally! Or how about if you're so serious about graphics, try to not have your all black & white movie, have all white text that seems to fade into the background sometimes, try using a thin black or grey border around the text... a lot of know it all amateurs make that mistake! Your movie seems to me to be something that you had sitting around collecting dust, then threw it into the first fest to come along. Yeah it was horrifying...Horrifyingly long and drawn out! Hay do me a favor buddy! If you didn't like the movie and you don't have a million dollar movie in the brinks.... Save a long a$$ bashing commentary for your dull life. Please don't get me started on anything you may have done. As for my boasting I did it myself. Don't hate if It may have taken you and damn near fifty people together to make one full length suck a$$ movie compared to a guy who chucked a 1.5 min movie together in a few days just to show what he had in the contest! As for what software I used... How many variations do you think are available smart a$$! and for your info.... It wasn't AE! But I bet you would love for me to tell you. I can accept criticism but what you said was nothing but blatant ignorance and down poring on a movie that would smash any of your best efforts to dust! So please before you tell me to humble up and try to give tips... CHECK YOURSELF BUDDY!!! Cause as BORING AS YOUR LONG NON INTERESTING MOVIE WAS! I WOULDN'T TALK BUCKO!!! But thanks for such an in-depth non-helpful hater review! Oh and i wonder what of the few obvious programs you used to edit your movie. By the way... I hope to see more movies from you as well! I guess you can blame him for being assuming--
But you can't blame him for being dead honest. I pointed out that your wall creature seemed to be pulled right out of Silent Hill 4. I mean, I know that you did it in a few days and all, but you can't expect people to praise an incomplete product.
I know you guys had fun, and all, which my comment reflects but I wouldn't go off on a vindictive tangent about another person's complete piece. In all rights, if you got down to comparing, Inexistence's piece was complete and while not horror... got the praise it deserved as an artistic piece.
I think that he might've done you a service by being [brutally] honest. A lot of people on the boards really aren't and such honesty could save you embarassment in showing someone a shoddy product.

10-09-2006, 03:26 AM
No that wan't it at all Kholi. There is a bigger picture here and I don't think you caught it. As with your review, I had no problems with it. And when you said the reference to silent hill I was like whoa! let me see for myself and went and found that you are right! They do have a monster coming out of a wall too "not like mine but they do". I only played Silent Hill 1 but never made it to 4 so I didn't copy. But as with any movie, I'm sure there's gonna be something out there similar, including CANDY GRAM. But I had no problem with your review or his as pertaining to my movie. But this.. (Excuse me for assuming you are not a graphic artist Kholi) This guy has out right insulted me and my know how of graphics and software all together! He even went further to diss my poster when his could have been created in any cheap graphics app in five minutes! So trust me... I already know my movie wasn't complete! I know it was rushed! Telling me that is fine! You can say you don't like it all day and that's fine. I have no problem with that. I love honesty. A review will not make or break me. Cause just the same as you don't like it, there are another few billion people that will. But this...He's basically an FX artist who saw another FX artist, and tried a pathetic attempt to lower me to him. I'm glad he went to school and learned a little bit and now wants to prove it. But please.....Don't try to teach the teacher son you'll only look like a fool in the long run.
But thanks Kholi. Good reference to SH4 Now I'm gonna buy it to see if anymore of my dreams are in that game! lol Cause that where I got the idea from.

I think mameragex that your talent, your enormous talent IMHO as an fx artist went downhill after your attack on Inexistence. I read carefully his review and found no bitterness in it. Maybe the fact that he as an fx artist has strong objections about your work made you angry, its different when one focuses on one talent rather than comment in general on a piece of work, but still I am amazed about your reaction. You ask for helpful comments and helpful his comments were young obi-wan...or whatever....
I would never expect 'artists' and 'creative minds' to feel the need of attacking one another like that. I read again Inexistence's comments and I know he comes off somewhat like trying to teach you...but he sounds so sincere and honest and ask for PM as well so that opens the gate to discussion and sharing. You feel that what he said about your use of AE is wrong ? Ok, discuss it, civilised, make your points, make some arguments, show some of your BTS...prove him wrong for christ's sake. What on earth are some people thinking in here? A few posts like this and we'll have Jerry Springer between us!!!!!

As stated Versus. I didn't see it that way. He wrote it that way on purpose but you have to know the back story to understand this. I'm sure you can see lightness from his side and thats fine. but let anyone give you a review not on your movie but your skill as you are... And I'm sure you'll have the same reaction. I respect his opinion on my film. But don't act like you know my skill level as a whole. I have nothing against him. And I'm sorry Versus if this makes me look as if i'm salty with him, cause trust me I'm not! This goes back a little further than this post. i think he may have taken me wrong on a comment I made in a post he made prior to his review. But trust me....As a movie maker rate me all you will.... But don't take apart my skill and art craft level especially if nothing I see you have can compare! As with your review Versus, you came real with it and I respected that and accepted it. But he insulted me in a nice & nasty way, and if that's gonna be something sitting in my personal post so be it! Deal with my response! If I have lost some cool points with you by me defending myself then hay... I'm sorry you feel that way. As a filmaker I am respectfully new. But as an artist I am no joke! As for his comments and his post I'm through with It and have put it behind me.

Man I understood you took it personally coz he challenged your craft and I said that in my previous post. But for example, the music in my movie The Door Between is my brothers, he wrote it and performed in the last day of the deadline. I know how much he worked his a@@ and his work ROCKS the house in here in my opinion compared to most scores. So if someone came and said that the music is unoriginal etc etc and asked me to pm him for some advice, I would feel terribly bad for my bro and have STRONG objections and even say to myself 'what the f@@@ is he talking about' but its not my character to post my personal thoughts of this kind. I would try and reason and talk about it and dig more into his way of thinking to see where he's coming from. Just me...its not like me to go out like that unless it gets really out of control and see that the other guy is just trying to trash me and my stuff for no reason but his own pleasure....We're cool you and me

10-09-2006, 04:45 AM
Yeah i see what you are saying. But just as well as he asked me to PM him after all he ad to say. If he felt he needed to teach me something then he should have PM'd me in the first place. That's when me and him can talk one on one if he feels he really needs to teach me something. But when you put it in my post...This is more of a place for everybody to see so it turns into more of a "hay look at me bash this guy in his own house!" Don't diss me in public then say "Hay if you got a response, lets do it in private" Thats just not right. But that's just me. Whoa! mameragex, slowdown. I wasn't expecting this kind of reaction because
I've been pretty hard with my reviews so far with pretty much everyone with
the exception of a few. Now, I do stand by my statements about your submission
and to lash out about mine is fine as well but, please put your review in my
thread.
There are a number of constructive criticisms that are worthy of discussion here and
ultimately that's what I offered in my post. If you feel that I'm attacking your skill,
that was not my intention but, imho the final submission does not match the hype
of the banner and poster.
Again I think my comments are justified and concise. Oh and btw, if you don't mind

Good reference to SH4 Now I'm gonna buy it to see if anymore of my dreams are in that game! lol Cause that where I got the idea from.
http://www.twitchfilm.net/pics/candy_stripers.jpg
I think you're showing a bit more of that "vindictiveness" I had typed/spoken about. You continue to trod on his "skill" as an FX Artist and that's honestly not the way to continue on about it. I didn't see, anywhere in his post, where he's attempted to lower you to his level. I saw advice on adding value to your production. I'm sure you're a great VFX artist, and from what I can see from those tanks at the end of Inexsitence's short, he is also a great VFX artist.
And, it's cool for similarities to be present. My reasoning for bringing it back up was because Inexistence stated that it looked like a good portion was ripped from a video game, and I had stated exactly what video game that looked like. I didn't bring it up to throw it in your face, or to accuse you of "copying", because the greatest flattery of all is to "copy" or "imitate" your favorite things. I think that you throwing that weird Candy Stripers thumbnail up was a way of getting back at me. It's a kind-of small thing to do.
Maybe you took it way too hard. I hope that in the future you see honest criticism as a means to strengthen your presentational level.

Oh I'm sorry Kholi. Did that offend you in some way? Cause all I did was what you did, I wasn't trying to be bogus or trying to offend you in any way but only as to show you what I meant. There is always something that can be as similar to another. I thought it was cool that it reminded you or him of a video game and that doesn't bother me one bit. But as I said Kholi I think the whole thing was way over your head to see what I mean. But I hope you can now slightly understand my point be seeing your reaction to me simply posting a movie poster that has something to do with candy. Now let me had gone one further and reviewed your movie AND posted that poster in your own personal thread...... I wounder if your reaction would have been a little more like mine....Hmmmm i wonder. So please Kholi, I didn't reject your criticism or comparison, but you saw disrespect in my comparison example with no statement, What happened to "It being a compliment to be like something else"? Anyway look Kholi, I liked your review thought it was your complete honest review of what you thought of my film:thumbup:. I don't need a personal review of me or my skill.

Yeah, you're still proving my point. I didn't see disrespect in your comparison. I saw you being childish. You went out and searched for something similar to prove a point that's universally understood. Do you even know what that movie is about? Have you watched any of it?
No, my reaction wouldn't have been anything like yours: I'm too professional to get angry when someone reviews my "skill". I've taken ass-rape with no grease over my screenwriting, and I'll continue to take it like a man; anyone serious about their craft would be open to the harshest critics. I saw no ill-will in Inexistence's review, and you're further showing your inability to be professional about something you're taking rather seriously.
Way over my head? Pfft. I'll leave you to your thread. Good luck in the future.

Stepping in....
When it comes to one's skill....I dont think you have to take it so personal. Ok, everybody has an opinion about himself and his depth of knowledge in some things...but still...no need to get mad about....you could have walked in the moon and somebody might say 'i could do that better, big deal'....cant you just keep the pleasure knowing you did that and not care if you dont want to open a discussion about the comment...
I still believe all this is a big misunderstanding and nothing more. I do believe that when someone puts himself open in public for comments and criticism he must expect that. And dude, you say you accept comment for the film but not your skill...this is a paradox IMHO....coz your movie reflects your skill or vice versa...so no matter what you, me, God thinks about your movie/skill, someone will have his objections...If I said 'the movie was not so good with its VFX' wouldnt that reflect to your skills in VFX?

I love the lines: "You better have no girls there or you're fired!"
Actually if he said :'the movie was not so good with its VFX' I think it would be normal, but guessing the tools and having suggestions I too consider it s offense. You can't speak like that if you don't know someone's background. I'm a vfx artist too but don't go over the threads giving instructions and lowering people. Mameragex work on the film is great, considering again the time he spent to accomplish it.

I did agree that tryings to guess what tools he used was a bit assuming. Well, very assuming, actually.
I don't think the rest of his review was off-base at all, though. And it didn't justify an attack on Inexistence's work; that just made it seem worse.

I really liked the WAITING KINDRED - some of the best visual effects I have seen so far, totally original approach, great editing and sound design and a lot of fun.
And when I read the post about ''..I bet you used AE.." and all those left-handed offers to advise the filmmaker on more professional techniques, I got offended on behalf of mameragex. Don't get me wrong, I mean Inexistence's work was hilarious, much funnier to me than Draco was to Kholi. I just laughed and laughed at it. It was supposed to be funny, right? One piece of advice: I would suggest learning a little more about the effective use of fonts, as mamergarex suggested. I assume, Inexistence, you used Word for Windows for the titles, correct? Here is a good resource: www.fontsfordummies.com or let me know since I am a "real" professional graphic designer, I can help you out.
Bien sur, I am just kidding, but that's the pedantic and condescending tone I was picking up in the commentary. I would have been offended too.

If I said 'the movie was not so good with its VFX' wouldnt that reflect to your skills in VFX? Yes! But only on this film. And you and him would be intitled to that opinion. But it's different when you say "I know what program you used and I use it better than that, your stuff is choppy and don't use this graphic filter cause I know what it is, be more creative, don't tell me you did it by yourself and yo acting is comical and yo FX look childish, Why cause I'm serious about FX so PM me" Thats nothing more than a challenge. And this contest is challenge enough for me right now. Now I had already seen his movie and seeing that in my opinion his movie had nothing to do with Horror or extreme skill, I decided it would be best to not say anything to him at all about it. But look.... Lets narrow it down to this. If you like it cool. If you didn't cool. But please the last thing I need is a ton of mediation on a post between two other people. So if you have any personal guidance please PM me. Cause I don't feel like watching this stretch out further than it needs to. Cause as his opinions wont change, neither will my response. I can see both sides of the argument here but, one fact remains the same...
we all have different backgrounds. I have developed thick skin over the years
with all kinds of varying comments from all kinds off people. I talk to
my colleagues it's the same way. We joke, we make obscenely harsh criticisms
of each others work, shit can almost anything despite feelings. I carry that
over, unfourtunately everywhere I go because it is not foriegn to me.
As a matter of fact pmgmedia I did use Word... but then I pasted into PS
for my hackjob on the titles. I think anyone here would agree that the
subtitles for my film need work, let alone massive kerning, which I have
already noted.
I never got my answer to which programs mamergex used.
3dsMax, Maya, XSI, Lightwave, Fusion, AE, Combustion,
Vray, Final Render, Brazil, Maxwell....etc.
Give me a clue? I trying to make a connection here so help me

But If you must know PS for poster work backgrounds and fill in image editing. AE for all the Green screen. Avid for edit & quick cross fades. Oh and also Vegas for scoring and final export. But FX artist know that you use what works for you. so as far as flash8 the blood effects and other little animations + some scripting INCLUDING the intro he thought was AE you may have missed. The beta app & Zbrush for modeling & environment. But No AE was not first choice for my intro, Though I do agree It would have been a lot smoother had I done so. But this was all experimentation for me as well as testing a new app. ALRIGHTY BYE BYE NOW!!!

I can see Flash 8 for the intro. My mistake-- I thought he meant AE for the overall compositing; I missed that. And swinging what AXE, guy? Honestly, everyone here has been peaceful ASIDE from you. Even the people that came to your defense are still peaceful...
And, it's cool that you can admit that he's right about something. To pull something together in Flash like that you need extensive practice. I should've been able to point out the flash work because on the image of your "reigning king" you can see black flecks laying over the background from where you used the Magic Wand on a photo image and didn't clean the rest of it up.

I think you kicked major ass. I mean, at least from what I can tell as a member of the audience. I don't know much about VFX work and such. But I can appreciate what I see.
But as a film, well, it played more like a really cool Super Bowl commercial or a short music video or even a video game trailer/intro. AND NOT IN A BAD WAY. In a very super f*cking cool way.

I loved the beginning narrative, and the way you tied it to the illustrations. I thought the VO was done well too...it fit.

Thanks man. Yeah you actually did miss the rest...lol :)cause I didn't get to put it all in. This is not the original story at all. There were so many things I didn't get a chance to touch up or complete that I had snatched the movie out of the fest. Till a few really cool people here convinced me to at least put in what I had. So I did. There was some dialogue between the two characters and also three more monsters that where recorded & animated that i wish i could have finished in time. Although the visuals where done pretty good, it looked a bit funny/video gameish.
The animation with narration was great and the switch from the animated you to the real you was perfect.
I read that you couldnt put in the whole story you wanted, so you prolly not surprised if I say that the story was the weakest point. A pity, I'm interested to see what you could have done with more time.

I'd like to see more of this one when it's finished. It seemed to be the beginning of something that was pretty original.
One suggestion: when you cut from the greenscreen shots to the live action shots, there is just too much of a difference in look. Maybe you could make the live-action stuff look more like cg because I'm sure that making the cg look totally real would be a lot harder.

2. U had 9 days (!?!?) of when u first started the hype
3. Great CG
Too bad i havent got 100 posts yet (in a year even!).
Maybe make a short making-of...id like to know how you got camera movement in front of a greenscreen if no one is holding the camera since you were in front of it...
I like the artwork integration, i'm doing something like that myself right now for a short...at least it was intended, the lazy a$$ art student i paid to do it is not getting a move on, thus delaying the finished product...if u wanna take his place, let me know!
Is that avatar your artwork too? dig the style..

Maybe you could make the live-action stuff look more like cg because I'm sure that making the cg look totally real would be a lot harder.
Yeah, I agree. Maybe I should have tried to make the entire thing look like a video game. That would have made it all tie together better + would have taken way less time. But I'm gonna still finish it. With a little more attention to detail and it's done. Thanks :)
What did you use to create the VFX?
I fly back a forwards through multiple apps till I get what I'm looking for. All my graphic and software skills are self taught. So if I can't figure out how to do it one way, I'll find another. Though I use way more than just these few...These are the apps I used to get what you saw.
PS for poster work backgrounds and fill in image editing
flash8 some particle effects + scripting and other little animations + scripting
A beta 3D app & Zbrush for modeling & environment.
AE for all the Green screen
Avid for edit
Vegas for scoring and final export. :)

WOW thanx The-Intern. Yeah don't feel bad about the 100 post thing, When I first started promoting I only had like 12 posts for a year as well. But as soon as I got my promo engine running, In a little to no time I was well over 100 before the voting started. YOU CAN DO IT!
I was wondering who would spot the camera work. It's all simple tricks. (I KNOW MAGIC) Okay no I don't. Some scenes (which there are very few) I simply edited the camera movements in post or shot the scene first then added me later. And others are all CG.:)
Thanks a mill + for signing the guestbook on my site.

you're not related to David Blaine or anything right? Project your astral body to act, while the physical body operates the camera...then if you would have split personality disorder, you could project an extra self to hold the mic...maybe an inner child to setup the lighting???
Well it does sound like hocus pocus to me, 'editing camera movements in post' or 'adding yourself in later'....do you even NEED an HVX to shoot your next film? If you win it, just donate it to my cause my man, cuz i gotta do other stuff than im doing now...(editing footage of fat rappers at a sate eating contest-no not my idea...)

I just saw this film. You did such a great job! I don't know what scared me more, the film, or that you did it almost entirely yourself. I think this was the most ingenius films in the fest, and it stuck true to horror.
As Shao Kahn would say: Outstanding!

Just finally getting the time to copy the notes I compiled in a Word doc while watching the shorts:
This was awesome! Too short for me to really care about, but the hype of the thread kind of lived up to the film. The VERY VERY opening was week, in that it looked like just a screen print of the website, and didn’t transition well from there. The opening titles from there were good (or storyboarding, whatever you want to call it with the VO). Could have transitioned a LITTLE better to the live actor (you), as he jerked into motion too quickly. Overall, your use of CG/VFX were great, and actually blended pretty well considering it looks like it was all greenscreen. Oh, and taking into account that you were everything, including the crew & talent, then this was amazing. If I were judging on that alone, you’d possibly be the winner, however filmmaking is often a very community involved event, involving many folks. When you have many working together, you can have a more professional result. This film could have greatly improved had others been involved to help both in front of & behind the camera. All that said, however, great job.
