View Full Version : 5 Questions for RED

I have three questions for the Red team:

1. Redcode Raw sounds fantastic, but how will it work for high frame rate shooting (EDIT:to a single drive)?

2. Will Redcode Raw support windowed shooting with S16mm lenses (and again, those high frame rates)?

3. And what is the ISO of the Mysterium sensor?

Please have the courtesy of doing a search before asking questions that have very easy to obtain answers. Even on Reds own site.
"Initial options will include RED-CAGE™ for mounting accessories and “growing” the camera body."

Question 5 was a joke. I've edited my original post to avoid confusion.

Make it three questions

1) don't understand the question. For higher framerates (over 30 fps) you will need the mini two-drive raid setup or the external "uncompressed" RAW raid system. I can imagine shooting onboard at 2K will allow for higher framerates recording as well (on the flash / harddisk)

2) I would think so

3) Unknown as of yet since the sensor has not been characterized yet

The mini two drive raid does not exist as far as I know. I started a thread about that but did not intend to imply its existence.

It does exist (the end of the harddrive holder on the rail system should be available in a 2 drive version as well)

Of course as anything this is subject to change...

i haven't seen any mention from red about a two drive version. where did you read this?

I was working the booth at IBC, this (amongst other things) is what we told people.

Are there any more things that we should know? Please?

thanks...

The other major stuff:

- onboard 4K recording
- REDCINE application announcement
- 720p electronic viewfinder
- magic focus assist (more on that later in the year) on all screens (EVF, LCD, etc.)
- 18-85 zoom lens
- red-rail
- onboard flash memory (32, 64, 128 GB sizes probably [and others])
- working sensor ;)

The two-drive raid is what I/is called "mini-raid"...

- onboard 4K recording

So, by reading what you wrote before, it'll be possible to do 4k 60fps onboard using "the mini two-drive raid setup"?

All the exact datarates and options are still being worked on. We have indicated 4K @ 30 fps onboard recording, which is on the flash memory.

*I* think this will also be possible on 1 or 2 harddrives, but it's a bit early for that (harddrive performance is increasing every month so to speak).

Thanks guys, I was wondering what the max framerate redcode raw could handle to a single drive. I suspect its going to be a bit of a pain (and expense) to crank up to those higher rates at 4K. But given 4K onboard recording is even possible, I won't complain. Hopefully the two drive raid is the ticket.
