I remember reading a thread where Jim said there will not be an auto Iris, or auto anything on the camera, this doesn't bug me, but i really think there should be a built in light meter, like SLR cameras, or super 8 cameras, is there any chance that this will happen?

What do you mean a built in light meter? Theres much more than a lightmeter in there already..

What do you mean, are you talking about the Viewfinder or LCD, like the DVX, When I shoot with My DVX, I would love to have something to tell me what the perfect exposure is sometimes I will hit the auto button just to give me a quick idea when I am in a run and gun situation, because the red will not have this I think maybe a light meter or spot meter would be nice. it would also de a lot easier when you are shooting on your own not to have to pull out the meter.

The idea is to use the built-in histograms and waveform monitor for setting proper exposure.

Sorry I did not know that it would have those features, but don't you guys think it would be nice to have the meter, i still think that in some situation there will not be enough time to pull up the menu to look at those option, unless they do like a split screen thing where you can have the wave and Hist up on the screen all the time, what do you guys think? maybe i am wrong!

i believe the histogram & waveform would be overlay in your LCD/EFV so you see image and overlays - you turn em on/off

You wouldn't need a waveform display plus a histogram, as the histrogram is sufficient to show your precise exposure level. That display can be added to both the Electronic Viewfinder and the LCD display, without obscuring the area of the video being recorded.

So there is only going to be histogram functionality onboard? I feel like the waveform is more useful sometimes because it lets you know how hard you're hitting certain exposure values rather than seeing overall densities in an image.

If I had to choose between the two I would MUCH prefer a waveform but being able to have both would be ideal.

There will also be a waveform monitoring feature:

But there will be zebras for quick aquisition, right?

Zebras are no quicker... just have to learn how to read the waveform. It's much more accurate and 100% equally as fast, just not as simple to understand.

Id absolutely prefer a waveform aswell (if we had to pick one) but let me take this a step further and ask/beg for an RGB parade. For visual FX work and calibrating greenscreens the only proper way to do it is with an RGB parade.

The problem with both waveform and histogram, is that it's lacking in showing what you measure.
A histogram has gives no location information on this whatsoever, a waveform only shows location across the horisontal axis. Problem is that you might have to let something clip, and if that picture part is above or belov you'r main subject it will be masked by the brighter reading.
So a Zebra or other superimposed indicator is still very usefull to compliment the other tools.

For Cine style shoots where you can use an incident lightmeter, the hisogram or waveform is enough to give the information you need, but for something like handheld work in existing light a more simple exposure aid would be preferrable.

I agree Anders...it would be excellent to have a histogram and waveform, but for versatility sake, it would be great to also have zebra.

Ok, it is unanimous then ..we want all four; are we greedy or what ?

PS. If I had to settle for two it would be waveform and zebras.

I would love if we only get one it would be the waveform. You can tell you exposer and you can also tell what your color is doing.

It has already been stated that the camera will have both a histogram and a waveform. You don't have to settle.

the functions of an accuscene viewfinder could be great - lots of people asking for that !
