I thought I found a thread about this a while a go and now I can't find the info with a search. Here is what I'm trying to do.

Day one of shoot we are capturing straight to computer over fire wire 720/24p
Day two 8gig cards shooting 24pn
Goal would be to have all the footage 24pn

Doesn't Cinema Tools (or is it some other app?) convert the 24p to 24pn so the whole project can be edited in a 23.97 timeline. If so what are the steps to do this for someone who is a FCP and Cinema Tools neophyte

Thanks in advance

Rick

FCP already does that, unless I am mistaken. Your captured files should be the equivalent of 24pN files already.

Wow that surprises me!

Is there a setting in FCP I have to set in order for this to happen(convert 24p streaming over firewire to 24pn) or does this happen automatically.

Am I correct that you can't stream native over fire wire and that it has to be converted some how?

thanks for the speedy answer

720pN is only 720p with the pulldown removed. In FCP 5.1, (which you should be using with 720p 24 footage anyway), just click the Remove Duplicate Frames/Pulldown checkbox at the bottom of the Import P2 dialog box where you see your thumbnails. Then just edit in a 23.98 timeline.

I spoke to soon - what Ned suggested will work with P2 cards but not when streaming over firewire - so to ask the questions again...

I am capturing over firewire to computer in FCP 5.1.1 - capturing 720/24p - everything is working great...

How can I convert my captured footage to 720/24p native.

Please be very specific about the steps as I am new to FCP -

Thanks in advance

Rick
