I have been using Vegas 6.0 to edit my short, and the video editing seems to be fairly simple. I am editing 24p footage from a dvx 100b, and we shot with both onboard mic, and a boom mic(2channels). I can raise and lower volume, but that is about it. Can anyone offer any insight on how to further manipulate audio in this program? All help will be appreciated, this program is still new to me. Thanks

What is it that you want to do exactly?

I need to be able to adjust the levels of each channel independantly. Also there are three audio adjustments that I see so far... The one labeled master near the preview window, the one for the video clip, and the one for the audio clip. I am not sure which to adjust to get the cleanest sound. I am sorry if I am not explaining it too clearly, it is just that I do not know what exactly this program is capable of audio wise, so I might be missing out on a whole section of it that I didn't even know existed.

Right click the audio... choose channel. Then pick left only, or right only.

If you want both, then crtl + drag the audio onto another track.

Each channel of a stereo recording?

Duplicate the track. For one, right-click on the audio and choose "Left Only." For the other, choose "Right Only."

Every track can have an independent volume and panning envelope added -- right-click on the track header to find the choices.

I'd strongly suggest reading the audio section of the manual.

Also open the audio effects window for each track. The default effects and settings are a good starting point but play around with selecting different presets on these effects. Some will work great, others not at all depending on what you need. I'd say play around with just those for a while before venturing into adding other effects to the chain. You'll find there's plenty of cool stuff in Vegas right out of the box.

To make spliting that stereo track into two separate tracks and adjusting one for the left and the other to the right even easier, you might want to look at scripting. For example: http://www.jetdv.com/scripts/StereoSplit.js will automatically do all of the above for you (at the touch of a button if you add it to the toolbar!)
