I am filming something tomorrow where it is a mock interview. I will have the actress wired to a wireless lav (G2). I thought it would be a good idea to put the lav to both channels (input channel 2, using 1 & 2) setting one level lower than the other. The actor doing the interview off camera would speak into the on camera mic. In doing a test, I don't hear the internal mic (on channel 3 and 4) when using p2 viewer. I don't have a nle yet to see if sound is recorded properly. Is there a way to listen to the internal mic when 1 & 2 are being used? Should I just use one channel for the lav to be able to better monitor the internal?
thanks,
jim

There must be a way - incamera - to hear 3&4 out. I do the same thing with input to 2 and have 1 set lower than 2. Very good safety net in case they peak.
Does anyone know how to read the HVXs level meters? Is it supposed to peak on the 3rd red vertical line with normal talking between the 1st and 2nd vertical? Or should it never touch the third red vertical?

If you cant monitor 3 & 4, other than a feeling of "presence" what is the point of having the two additional channels? I am concerned that if I let the interviewer talks into the camera mic, it might get sloppy.
I am interested in you question as well as far as which line is unacceptable?

To hear ch3 and 4, in MCR mode, turn off thumbnails and press the menu button. Then go into Playback Options. You can pick from 1&2, 1, 2, 3&4, 3, 4, but not 1&2&3&4. You can also get to the Playback Options by pressing menu during playback.
