does anyone know how to do the infamous split screen/phone effect in vegas 6? it's where two people are talking to each other via phone and the screen is split into two parts, seperating the two people. i've searched around for this but i've had no success.

Do it in pan/crop. You trim the image to show what you want in both. You may have to disable "Center on image" and "Maintain aspect ratio" off to the side of the tool dialogue.
You can then probably use pan/crop to move the image's position in the frame, or you can use track motion to move it after you crop.
