Hello everyone,

we will soon jump on the red bandwagon and order. After researching quite a bit and having been convinced at IBC, a simple question remains.

We do operate (and will also rent & help out other red-users with them) 4 main zoom lenses here.

35mm : Angenieux Zoom 25-250mm f3.2
2/3HD : Angenieux Zoom 7.8-203 f2.2
2/3HD : Angenieux Zoom 5.3-53mm f2
16mm : Angenieux Zoom 9.5-57mm f1.6

And regarding the 16mm lens & red i would like to ask a question:

As the 16mm Zoom is at f1.6, we would use it mainly for the 120p shooting with red - canīt tell you how exicted we are about digital 120p.

But i wasnīt able to calculate the window the 16mm lens will cover on the S16mm sensor window - i couldnīt find the necessary information (lens->sensor distance etc).

Would one maybe have to use the 2/3 1080p mode instead, to make sure that the sensor-window is fully covered? Could we crop in red-cine?

Also, i would like to encourage reservation holders and potential buyers in Germany to get in touch with us - we are considering buying prime sets and some more nice stuff for upcoming productions of ours and would be quite interested on having a 2nd/3hrd camera around and do some ahead-planning with other red-owners to built a better infrastructure.

We are located in Berlin, btw, and (shameless self-promotion ahead, beware) also have some more nice gear (cinealta-cams, class 1 hd-monitors, uncompressed 2K discrecorders etc).

the 9.5-57 Ang does not cover Super 16 area ...
can't find my cinetographers manual to see size of reg 16 compared to 2/3"

yes, that is exactly my interest - what use can non-super 16mm glass be.

it should be able to be used for 1080p 120p with 2/3 B4 settings, but i only assume that and am not certain. on the other hand, when the lens/sensor distance is flexible could one use the S16 capture area and crop in redcine?

it is very interesting how many possibilities (and questions) the red offers.

our main interest in using the angenieux 16mm is its nice f1.6 stop - for highspeedshots a very nice zoom.

it been quite awhile since i've used the 9-57 .. from what i remember the F stop is not constant thru the zoom range ..so at 9.5 it is f 1.6 but at 57 it is slower (maybe around f2.2?) ...
i don't remember the actual T stop of the lens ??

me too! and we donīt have any 16 around anymore.

yes, that is certainly the case - i donīt remember the exact numbers right know.

T was at 1.9, IIRC.

It would be great if 16mm glass would be useable in 2/3 B4 mode and cover the full window. but i am afraid that the horizontal area would be slightly to small, IIRC 16mm was ~10,25 * 7.5, 2/3 i donīt know exactly, the red website states 10.4 * 5.9.

the angenieux 9.5 is lightweight, good stop and ergonomic, and often both of our HD Zooms are out together with the cinealta, so i see several good applications, lightweight runīnīgun, highspeed, any zoomshot who requires minimal size etc. the 25-250mm angenieux is large and heavy and has a slower speed.

Since you're shopping and a local, what's the going rate on:

Zeiss Ultra Primes
Zeiss Master Primes
Zeiss Super Speeds

Need to budget :)

Rocketeer, when do you need to shot and would it be in germany? we do rent out a prime set, but its basicly booked out until mid-februar...
