The DVC30 has the ability to change for different shooting conditions, Panasonic makes there own optional XLR adapter that fits on the removable handle and includes an external mic holder. If you're interested it also has night shooting mode that you can shot in the dark - I know they also offer an optional lamp for this type of shooting. Sonys are known for there low light ability, but I've heard good things about the DVC30. You also have some of the controls that are found on the big brother DVX100A/B that can tweak the image that may give it a film quality(doesn't shoot progressive or 24 frames)

Fo the price of a new agdvc30 you can find a second hand dvx100 for sure.

The only thing that makes VX2100 better (in my opinion) is if you are filming any action sports, the Century "death" lenses (MKII and MKI mod) are excellent for the VX2100, and the lowlight on VX2100 is outstanding.
However, with DVC30, there is a Nikon FC-E9 fisheye adaptor, which (when zoomed through the vignetting) produces a very wide, and good quality picture which can compare with the VX2100 MKII setup, and maybe even VX2100 MKI mod.
