You are a GENIUS. Not only have you developed a camera that many DREAM about, but also made it upgradable, developed software for it, made it compatible with all NLE'S, and gave us Indies 4k under $20,000...

I have too much to say, and although i cant afford one for a few years, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for realizing this.

and oh ya, i have spent too much on this sony thing, woo to you cinealta

Hey Greg, I usually enjoy your posts; although not when you get acerbic in your tone ( this is not CML or cinematography.com). Could it be that he meant that he doesn't have an endless supply of cash for film? He did not kick your dog so why kick his dog? Just think of all that experience that have in that medium and how you can apply it to your deal. BTW, you are the one that comes off tacky. Don't begrudge someone for being inexperienced, none of us were born infallible.

Cheers Mate,

We all stand on the shoulders of giants. Respect for that is the first step in learning one's craft.

Now hold on here...What killfilm has to say in my opinion is valid. It is the Price point. If RED was 150k plus, Guess what? Most of us could care less about the sensor, if it was not in are price range. A big part of the revolution is the Price Point. And Jim is the one to thank for that Price

Greg Lowry ripped you a new one for having the moniker killfilm (his interpretation of your alleged noobness), I was defending you. He deleted his post. I guess I should delete mine as well.:thumbup:even if i like his posts (i've learned a lot with him.. thx greg!) this guy is a highjacker.. rant -> post -> repent -> delete it.. definitely, the editors shouldn't allow you to enter at the edit room, that's for sure..

edit
next time, quote him and his post(s) can't escape.. the famous greg's rants.. he amuses me.. he speaks as all of us might be cinematographers or any filmmaker should be one of them.. anyway, he's very useful.. i agree firewallet, when he's nice he's cool.. but i didn't say this: he hates my amateurish.. that's right.. i'm amateur.. i love to be an amateur.. for my sorrow, i'd just like all the commitments that i have in this business could think the same.. :crybaby:

cheers mate.. :)

i think all here we're learning.. including him.. learning ourselves and each other..

Agreed my friend. Greg can post good stuff, but the rants sink him in my eyes. I just don't want people taking my comments out of context ( now that the context has been deleted!) I try to treat everyone with respect and never stop learning. I started out as the lowest grip and worked my way up the ladder and there are many who stupidly misjudge others out of their own extreme ignorance.

I too would like to thank Jim, you have no idea how this camera will impact my (life)work and generate (happiness) revenue for myself and so many others. I have faith and am awaiting my res. # from sept. 8th.

Cheers,

Greg is a fantastic contributor to this forum. And is also a gentleman off of it. Maybe, his bruskness sometimes is not for everyone, but I know his intention is to bust preconceptions and not chops, IMHO.

His post was a mild rebuke at a naivete (concept) he thought he saw. A mod thought it was a bit personal, so they trimmed his post. That's all. No biggee.

I hope he contributes many more posts.

Indeed, I'll save my cigars for when I get the camera in my hands - which I wasn't going to state - but since this thread has gone off topic. to each his own.

With you on that D and G. Anyone who can spend the time to answer a question (sometimes in depth) is a friend indeed.

We are all different on this forum and the range of experience is equally different (vast a better description).

Sometimes people who are very talented with great knowledge have less tolerance of others (who clearly have less experience) when they reply, but that does not mean they are meaning to be intentionally rude or offensive. Sometimes people just say it how it is, others are more diplomatic. I like straight blunt answers even if it exposes my inexperience or effectively boots me where it hurts! I learn more that way but others can get upset and come out with counter blows.

Over at DVinfo there was a recent thread concerning another really experienced pro (Steve Gibby) which rambled on how Steve is always stating how much experience he has etc etc. Some guys over there got upset because THEY took it as meaning something else, my guess was they took it as meaning he had more experience and therefore he was right and to enforce that, he mentions his experiance!

Throughout this steep learning curve of mine i read all the post on red ( I dont take drugs but red.......) and conclude many don't have a lot of experience compared to others who clearly have.

There are a plenty of posts that give out opinions and views that are clearly wrong. Those views are nearly always corrected by those who have far greater experience (thank goodness).

Maybe DVXuser should ask every member what their experience is before they join and give a star rating to the level of their experience. This could be further improved apon by a star rating in particular fields. I have given my views on some things about red. But my views are entirely based apon what i think! not what i know (which is very little). Compare that to someone with experience of using 35mm cameras and no guesses as to who's viewpoint you ought to listen to!

How often you visit this site should not give rise to senior member status but should give rise to regular contributor status or regular visitor status.

These are just my opinions. I consider myself as an observent enquiring type of guy. I triple check any opinions i get from here and when i see they are correct i admire those contributors for being correct.

People that gain Emmy awards are special, that should be highlighted with their name. People who have great experience should be highlighted with their name as well. Some opinions are based on a great deal of exsperience in theory AND in real world experience. Other opinions may be based on little experience of the subject on hand.

Names with attachments stating if pro or hobby status. years of experience etc might also help. Though there will always be exceptional talented people who are not pros (Jim Jannard for one). Maybe then OTHER people can judge who's opinion is more likely to be the right one.

Having said all that i just think (as i did over at DVinfo) if we all behaved like Charles Pappert there would be no in-fighting and rudeness to each other just different opinions.
Without people like Steve and Greg where is the value of DVXuser. :dankk2:

I post too much for my level of experience:crybaby:

Uh, that doesn't sound much like any revolution I've ever seen! Sounds a bit like 'maintaining the status-quo.' to me - hehe. Unfortunately the film industry isn't impervious to grifters who will fib about their experience so I'm not sure if a rating system would work (even though I could probably improve my current status a notch or two). IMDB is a perfect example of that. It just seems a bit shy of egalitarian for a so-called revolutionary movement that's trying to break all the rules (or bend a few of them at least).

Anyway I thought we were all just 15 year olds posting in our mom's basement! http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/images/smilies/smiley.gif

I do agree however that it's very cool when a pro can help out a prol with a question or two. Greg helped me out just last night on another thread. Ultimately we all have to make up our own mind as to who's the real deal - and, yah, respect is due.:)

Thank you Andrew for your pm i thought i would reply here since you posted it here:)

Civility costs nothing is an old saying but the aftermath of either being or not being cival can have massive positives and negatives. I have learned a lot about people and life (over 40yrs old now) and continue to learn. I echo what others have said on this thread and urge certain individuals to treat all of us on this forum with some degree of tact. Think before you write and imagine how YOU would react to that same post if YOU were at the recieving end. Greg all the kindness in the world and all the help in the world that you give to others can be worthless if you offend someone in the process. I have learned you have learned and so have others.

Futher to the star rating i would suggest maybe a coloured dot to indicate your experience on subjects perhaps.

Sorry i have continued off topic but i felt it was necesary on this ocassion.

On topic: Jim Jannard has given us all some hope so far and likely to give us great pleasure in the next few months. A talented team like that deserves our support i hope they continue to do the impossible (well almost!) of providing us all with a camera that can do more than any previous camera we owned.

Michael
