Go to "recording format" and choose 480i/24pA.

Don't forget to press the magic "film look" button, that always does it for me.

You guys are mean. If you cant help then no point in being sarcastic.

BTW, I REALLY think this film-look issue has to be posted as a sticky somewhere. 24fps, shallow Depth of Field, Progressive picture, and the whole shebang.

I think the point of the sarcastic post was that there is a lot more to getting the "film look" than a setting in the camera. When someone post a question like that with no other information I guess it's a little hard to resist. You could spend days going back and forth about settings in the camera only to find out later that they are set up in a seven eleven store with a ceiling full of fluros and big glass windows with a bunch of daylight pouring in.

Wait PIMP, arent you the one who had his DVX stolen recently? Did you go out and buy an HVX now? What happened with that?

PIMP, I've just been doing test footage with the HVX using minidv. I find that I can get some VERY filmlike footage with it, I love it. I am using the preset 5, which is cinegamma V mode, and setting record mode to 25p (I am in PAL land). Leave the shutter speed set to OFF. I am also loving the look of zoomed-in wide aperture DOF, although I expect to drastically improve this once the Brevis adapter arrives.

Outdoor shots with lots of nice natural lighting look particularly filmlike. I think this camera can produce some incredible stuff, been amazed so far. Looks way better than real life! Obviously indoor shots will almost always look like video (no matter what camera you're using) unless you are providing decent lighting too.

(Yes, minidv is video, literally speaking, however If we're all being sensible, we all know exactly what you mean by the "video" look.)

i must admit i dont know what the film look is on video, the only difference to me between the the two is colour difference,i hope all this cini gamma film look does not turn the picture to super 8 lookalike fair colour if you can see through the grain,so please for someone who may get one these type cams what would be the difference between a fairly busy street be on shots on normal and cini look.was murder ball made this way if so i can see no difference.

okay, Loki said it the best on another thread... i'll find the link later, but 24p never LOOKS like film, it MOVES like film. it seems like a subjective issue but it's not. with clever color correcting, scene composition, movement, lighting, acting, focusing and overall PREPARATION you will get the film look (or as close to it as you can get) - If that's not enough, consider getting a 35mm adapter or follow tutorials on this site to get your productions as close to film as you can get with the HVX.

now, no one here blatantly said that 24p is all there is to film, i just thought it should be put out there. man, scharky, you are hilarious! =)
