Hello all.

I'm still very new to the HVX, and filiming in general. I want to shoot a showroom of people looking at cars and taking them away, but then have them drive away. The trick is to have the footage play back fast so it looks as if customers are "buzzing" around and the cars are going quick.

We'll also be shooting the spokesperson first on green screen and comp them together so she's normal speed.

What are some good settings if I wanted to shoot it slower right in the camera, as opposed to shooting it regular speed and using Final Cut to change the speed. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Alex

Rather than a post or slow shutter solution, you might want to consider a time lapse sequence for the effect. It really depends upon the ratios (background speed/real-time speed) that you are looking for.

Is this a day or night for the showroom? If you are shooting available light for the showroom, and you do go the time lapse route, watch out for changing sun angle unless you want that as part of your shot.

Thanks for the reply. This is a daytime shoot in the showroom with lots of windows and big lights above. We also have extra light that we could shoot back there. The final shot will only be about 10 seconds, so the sun won't be a problem. Time lapse sounds too slow for this. I read in another thread about shooting really low fps and getting nice streaks/ghosting effects to boot.

Yeah, if only 10 seconds are to have elapsed, then slow shutter is the way to go. Time lapse would be for a much longer interval. If you are shooting daytime with big showroom windows, then you probably would want daylight (read HMI) instruments for any supplemental lighting as tungsten is gonna be too low of color temperature and by the time you gel it, it won't have enough punch to be of much value.

Post some footage when you get this in the can. Sounds like an interesting project.
