Other NLE's I've used have a standard dissolve normally called a "cross dissolve". Vegas must have another name for it. On the transitions tab there's plenty of dissolves but I can't tell which is the equivalent of the standard cross dissolve. Also, how do you alter the length of the dissolve?

Second question is about titling. If there was a shot of a group of people and you want a title saying something like "This is Elvis" and an arrow pointing at him and perhaps even tracking his movement, how do you do that?

thanks.

#1 For a standard "cross dissolve", just slide the beginning of a clip onto the end of the previous. It will set up a cross dissolve. Adjust as necessary for length.

#2 Place the title track over the clip you want to title. Then over the title clip, place a (and I use) .png file of an arrow. Make sure that the area around the arrow is transparent. (usually done when the .png is created or if it's a solid color you could apply a FX Sony Chroma Keyer to it to eliminate the single color background.) Use track motion and key frames to have the arrow follow the object.
