Hi all. This is my first post but I have been lurking here from time to time.
First of all I want to congratulate the RED team for the amazing picture quality shown at IBC.
I have no problem with the look of the camera as long as it does the job.
I have a few concerns about functionality.
Camera:
Is the camera going to be run at 12V or 24V?
I would prefer 24V since focus and zoom motors don't work that well with 12V. They get weak and slow!
It now looks like all the connectors are mounted straight out on the right side of the camera. That would create bends and stress on the cables attached. Sony just told me that they are moving all connectors on their NGC camera for that reason.
If the display and other buttons are located on the back of the camera, they would be hard to access if the "counterweight" is moved up close to the body. I think it would be better if the display and buttons were located on the left side of the camera.
RED rail:
I don't want the handles to be mounted on the rods. That will limit the space availble for follow focus and mattebox. Also the handles will get a little to high for comfort holding.
I think it would be better If the shoulderpad and handles were one unit with it's own "arms" and could have a quick lock (and a start/stop button). Then you could remove the hand held unit without dismantle everything!
Having the rods going all the way from the lens to the "counterweight"
is also a problem if you want to go from a short prime to a zoom, again you don't want to dismantle everything!
Anyway this is just details. If the Red team can deliver a camera with the picture quality I saw, things defenetily are going to change...
