Not to post this in the wrong forum section, but this will gain more views.

...

Sony Vegas 6 is currently available at B&H Photo for $99, CD only.

...

And if that wasnt good enough, www.videoguys.com (http://www.videoguys.com) has received (alleged) info from IBC that anyone who buys Vegas+DVD (v6) from August 10th until present is entitled to receive a FREE upgrade to Sony Vegas+DVD, version 7.

www.videoguys.com][/url]Sony Vegas 7 coming soon! The following was posted on the Sony website for about a day, then pulled down Official announcement and complete specs are coming at IBC. In the meantime we have gotten official word thatanyone buying Vegas6+DVD from August 10th or later will be entitled to a free upgrade to both Vegas 7 and DVD Architect 4!
From http://www.videoguys.com/vegasvideo.html.

...

In conclusion, it may be possible to get Vegas 7 and DVD Architect 4 for a measly 99$ thanks to B&H video, though nothing is official at the moment. In the meantime, take advantage of the 99$ sale, and hope for the best on the free upgrade.

EDIT: Vegas+DVD will also come bundled with Boris(R) Graffiti Ltd and Magic Bullet Movie Looks(TM) HD65.

Sorry to burst the bubble, but the upgrade for v6+DVD is $250 and teh upgrade from Vegas6 (no DVD, which is what B&H is selling) is $299.

HOWEVER that is still a bargain at $399 compared to the $699 retail price! I think I'll go for it. That is, unless others who try it out say it sucks...

For me, the HDV/HD performance is the kicker- V6 just couldn't hack it. Poor compared with Edius, or even Pinnacle. My testing wasn't near conclusive enough though, so I'm waiting to hear what others have to say.

Fun fun fun...

Ummmm you're wrong. I just bought it - $103.45
It's only for the Vegas 6 CD. no box, no manual...

you linked to the sony site, but pto has the correct link to the B and H site. I don't know about the free upgrade to 7, we'll see...but he's right about vegas 6 for $99

tjohara99, I was talking about the UPGRADE from what you bought to the full suite that was announced recently.

I was simply pointing out two things -- one that the $99 sale is for Vegas ONLY not for Vegas+DVD.

Second that the upgrade from that to V7+DVDA4 that certainly won't be free since they currently charge $250-$299 to upgrade it to Vegas6+DVDA3 right now (that's wha the link I gave was pointing out)

It's possible they will surprise us, I suppose, but free's not really in their best interest, since the whole point of coming out with a new version is to, well, *sell* it, and make some money. My admittedly pessimistic guess is you'll see an upgrade price in the same $250-300 range. As I said, that plus the $99 for V6 is still a good deal. Only time will tell what they offer....

Upgrades for registered users from Vegas X + DVD to Vegas X+1 + DVD have traditionally been $199.

Many software companies will provide a free copy of the latest version of a program if someone bought the previous version within a specific window of time (usually about a 30-60 days prior to the release of the new version). This is nothing new for Sony either, as you could always contact them with proof that you recently bought the previous version, and they'd send you a copy of the new version.

However, I think anyone buying Vegas 6 only (such as is being sold at B&H for $99) and expecting to get Vegas 7+DVD for free will be in for a big surprise. Vegas and Vegas+DVD are different products. Even Videoguys state that "anyone buying Vegas6+DVD..." will get a free upgrade to Vegas 7+DVD. It may stand to reason then that anyone who bought Vegas 6 within the same window of time will receive Vegas 7 right? Sure, except that it is being said that Sony is only going to be selling the Vegas+DVD bundle from now on. Hopefully this is wrong, because otherwise anyone who jumped on this deal will be out of luck. We'll just have to wait till the 12th to find out.
