Cheeeeap. I wish I waited.

OK maybe not... if I waited that'd mean I would have been using Windows Movie Maker for another year.

Wait a sec... bhphotovideo.com is showing Vegas 6 for $99. So if I get Vegas 6 (again) for $99, that means I'll have Vegas 7???

Yeah, I don't get it. There has to be a catch.

It's still $599 on sony's website.

Is it because it's not the bundle, just Vegas? Still cheap though...

Sony Vegas 7 coming soon!

The following was posted on the Sony website for about a day, then pulled down Official announcement and complete specs are coming at IBC. In the meantime we have gotten official word thatanyone buying Vegas6+DVD from August 10th or later will be entitled to a free upgrade to both Vegas 7 and DVD Architect 4!

I think that is proof enough... and I am pretty sure that from a legal point of view, if Videoguys has stated it and its not true, you are entitled to a free upgrade from them.

My $99 copy of Vegas is on the way. Videoguys seems to be the only guys stating it but I have to believe there will be some type of upgrade program offered direct through Sony for 7 that should include a free upgrade within X amount of days. I'll cross my fingers but either way, I won't feel bad about paying $100 for Vegas 6

so I bought just vegas 6 recently. Do I have to have bought vegas+dvd to get the free upgrade?

If not, how do I get the upgrade?

Just to make sure everything is clear. The free upgrade referenced is for the "Vegas+DVD" bundle. The $99 is for Vegas only, without DVD Architect and based on previous version upgrades will cost $299 to upgrade from Vegas 6 to Vegas7+DVD.

If you buy Vegas 6+DVD, which I believe sells for $399 at VideoGuys, then you would be eligible for the free upgrade (assuming the quoted information is accurate).

Hope that helps. Either way, $99 is a great price for Vegas 6 which is a fantastic editing tool (as I'm sure you already know).

Peace,
Larry

Well, according to an email I just got from Sony. With the $99 Sony Vegas 6 I just purchased, I can upgrade to Sony Vegas 7 + DVD for $149.95. So that makes owning Sony 7 + DVD for $249.95. That ain't too shabby. Plus an extra copy of version 6 laying around.

That's great news, drdobs! Could you post the email contents here so we can see what it says? Or at least give us any website links from it, if it has any.

Wasn't really planning on buying another NLE just yet, but this would of course make a great deal.

To make all of this relevant, of course, has anyone downloaded the v7 trial and got any impressions of it? I can't find much on the web yet about it.

I'm not at my computer with the email, but here is a link to a guy who posted it named Gary Bettan. about 3 posts down from the top.

I've been delaying getting Vegas until version 7 came out--what a great reason to buy now and start enjoying the product right away! I also want to upgrade my copy of Acid, but everytime I upgrade, the new version seems to come out a few months later at the FULL upgrade price. Any guesses as to when the NEXT version of Acid is due?

The BHPhoto $99 Vegas says that it comes without manuals or box - it's just the CD. But doesn't the resgistration code come in the manual? Can anyone confirm that this is the full thing and not just the CD that you can't register...

I don't think b&h would do you like that. You can often buy software like that. It is probably just a cd sleeve with a sticker on the outside that has the cd key on it.
Call em and verify though. They will let you know :)

From the Sony upgrade page of their site, regarding the $249.95 Vegas+DVD upgrade: "In order to purchase Upgrade to Vegas+DVD from Vegas, you must enter a qualifying serial number below:" This is from "any pro version of Vegas." I'm hoping that the $99 "CD-only, Vegas-only" version that B+H is selling is a "qualifying" serial number. I'm assuming it is.

Good news here folks! I got my UPS delivery package today and it was a paperthin envelope from B&H. I thought, WHAT THE HECK!?!?! Opened it up and there was a raw Sony Vegas 6 CD inside a paperwhite $0.01 sleeve. You know, the kind that the cheats send you on eBay when you buy software? There was a sticker on the front with the serial number that looked legit enough. So I went straight to the sony website (through the email I got) and placed my order. Total price delivered is $154.95 ($149.95 + $5.00 S&H).

So to alleviate your fears, the CD-Key that comes with the B&H deal DOES in fact work. :)

As I just mentioned in my previous post, I received mine today and you do in fact only get a CD with a serial key written on the outside of the sleeve. Kinda funny coming from B&H, but you can't beat the deal either way and it DID work upgrading to Sony Vegas 7+DVD.
