Yeah, two years would be just about right from script to screen on something of this scale. Just multiply the number of total production days Michael Bay spent on Tora! Tora! Tora! by 2.56725 and you'll arrive at exactly 2007.
Can't wait.

Why don't we beat them to the punch? We can intentionally start a war with China or someone and we'll go film it as a documentary, but with filters up the ying yang....

I just watched The Thin Red Line in HD. Now that is a beautiful, haunting war film.
Can you believe Shakespeare in ^&*%&*! Love snatched Best Picture over TTRL in the '99 Oscars?

That's a goddamn shame Elton and further proof the Academy is all politics and full of shite
Did not win a single Oscar despite 7 Nods
Shakespear also beat out Saving Private Ryan

I'm hoping the six hour director's cut will see the light of day before I die.
Billy Bob Thornton recorded a narration for the 3+ hour epic under the supervision of director Terrence Malick. But the final print of the film has voice-overs by 8 of the main characters in the film; none of the narration from Thornton is in the final print. In addition, several other stars who filmed scenes were left on the cutting-room floor, including Bill Pullman, Gary Oldman, Lukas Haas, Viggo Mortensen, and Mickey Rourke.
The original cut of the film was just under 6 hours in length. Over a million feet of film was shot.
Hans Zimmer, the composer on the film along with John Powell (who provided additional music) composed over four hours of music on this film, presumably for the original director's cut of the film. However, when director Terrence Malick re-cut the film down to its current running time of 170 minutes, he chose only a few select pieces of music from Zimmer's and Powell's musical contributions, along with original source music and that's what ended up in the theatrical edition of the film.

Six hours? Good grief, I love the movie but even I know when to say when.
I would rather have a beautiful and haunting snooze.

I guess the timeline makes sense. 10 hours is like making five features. BoB is the greatest TV mini-series ever.

A six hour movie? Get a grip. On the other hand, if anyone were to track down all the additional score, I would absolutely be interested in that. TTRL is probably the most beautiful score of all time, one of those times when Zimmer escapes himself and transcends.

The Thin Red Line is a wonderful score. I can do without the sections with the 'childrens choir chants' but overall it is wonderful. I like most of Zimmers work.

Yeah, the chants went on a bit long for my taste too, but it gave a true sense of the native culture.
I love the simple poetry of the film; e.g: A plaintive V.O. from Private Witt about remembering how his mother didn't fear death. And in the end the he sacrifices himself without fear.
A lucid and mesmerizing meditation on war and humanity.

I agree
TTRL has become one of my favorite films. I at first loathed it compared to the hyperealism of SPR .... But I have come to place Malick in my all-time favorites file.
He is a master.
