hey everybody,

I rendered a video in 3dmax 720x576 pixel aspect ratio 1,42 so my resulting video will be widescreen 16:9. The problem however is when I import the video in my video editor (vegas) .. the image is not represented correctly in the preview window, its squeezed vertically so that black bars are on the left and right.. and when i select “simulate device aspect ration” it only deforms it worse. Also when I select on the template PAL DV sidescreen or PAL DV .. there is a slight difference but still its not represented correctly.. when I render out using mainconcept mpeg encoder for pal dvd and I select 16:9 display it renders out as a 16:9 frame but much larger that 720 horizontal, its like it renders it out at 1024 x 576 so the resulting image is stretched horizontally, like its trying to fill the black bars right and left. Im really confused about this whole widescreen ordeal and how to represent it correctly in the video editor and also in windows

thanx

Right click on your clip, go into properties and uncheck "maintain aspect ratio". This should stretch your aspect to the appropriate size.

cool, thanx Kaz,

it fixed it, another prob is when i watch the video on media player in windows, its aspect is fine, but it's like it's stretched to 200% or something, like the video is 1024x576, i checked settings on the player and all the settings seem fine, the video is 720x576,... this is not a problem if u watch the video full screen because there is stretching there anyway, the problem is when u want to watch it at its 100%. Maybe im wrong here and thats how its supposed to represent it at that aspect.. but the quality seems much worse because of that stretch.

I rendered a video in 3dmax 720x576 pixel aspect ratio 1,42 so my resulting video will be widescreen 16:9. The Pixel Aspect Ratio for DV Widescreen is 1.2121. Perhaps this is your problem?

Oops… should have picked up that you are using PAL by the 576. The Pixel Aspect ratio for PAL Widescreen is 1.4568. If you are using 1.42 in 3dmax that still could be the issue.

I don’t have 3dmax but I do use Cinema 4D and I just set up an animation render using 720x576 D1 PAL with a Pixel Aspect of 1.4568:1 and it fills the Vegas preview of my PAL DV Widescreen project with no black bars and the correct ratio. (I added sphere to the scene just to make sure it was still round in Vegas) ;-)

I'm not sure what's happening with your file in MP. It looks fine for me under the same circumstances (with NTSC in place of PAL that is).

Hi, Im a max user as well. Ive found this problem too. It appears Mediaplayer doesnt at times recognise the correct pixel aspect ratios. Like when i even render from vegas a DV widescreen avi,, media plr will play it as of its squeezed. But like every one said getting it to match your vegas project is in the pixel ratio numbers. Wrong pixel aspect ratios and you will get disortion within vegas because ive found that even if you adjusted the aspect ratio setting from within the vegas crop window. It pseudo adjusts to match the project. Your not fitting the exact resolution into the vegas project dimension.
