View Full Version : HD P2 Clip Exporter - Where Is It?

Regarding the HD P2 Clip Exporter option that's supposed to be on the Export drop-down list - I've never seen it! It might have to do with the way I've connected the camera to the computer. I've tried both USB (it's a PC) and Firewire, but I'm never offered that option, though the computer recognizes the camera. And I understand that you can export P2 files directly to HDD, so that the camera recognition isn't a factor.
I'd love it if someone could walk me through their steps when they decide to export a timeline to a P2 card or as P2 files to a hard drive. I'm obviously missing something. I do have Broadcast, and my timeline is a Canopus HD preset codec, as is required.
Any help much appreciated.

"You select print to file, then HD P2 Clip from the list when the box appears (not ProCoder)."

I have done that many times, but have never seen that option on the export list, even though I've seen screen shots of it. There is obviously one key thing that I'm not doing, or some setting that isn't activated...

Do you have Broadcast installed?
If so, then you might have the wrong project setting. I went through this last week. Make sure you are choosing a Canopus HD setting, I use 23.97 over 60i because I am shooting 24p.
Edit: I see above you have the right setting. I don't know what to tell you, I could never get it to write back to P2 cards, but I can export a P2 file to the harddrive.

I've discovered what the problem was: an incorrect setting, as I thought, but a weird one you'd think might be documented. My project settings have all been 720/24p over 60p. That's the only Canopus HD setting that won't give you the P2 Clip Exporter option. Anything else, 720/23.97 etc. will.
Now I need to find a way to give my project a new setting so that I can access the P2 Exporter. I get no other options when I use the Save Project drop-down list. Anybody know how I can do this? Do I save the project in a different way?

If I am understanding you, I think you can just go to project settings window and change it on the fly. then resave your project. Under the settings tab I think? but anyways, just find project settings under your menu options and change the settings to what you want. Should take care of it, if I am catching you

Weirdly and uniquely, when I go to Save Project/Settings, the only option offered is "HD Canopus 720/24p over 60p". It doesn't give me anything different to select. I therefore can't change this project's setting on the fly, unlike with all the other HD codecs.

not save project. but it is under the tab that has application, hardware, and project settings. That is where you can change it on the fly. I am not at home so i can't tell you exactly where it is right now. but it is the second or 3rd menu option from the right. Within that you will see project settings. Within that you can choose all your options. I am speaking from the 4 pro trial though. but it should be there. I know 4 lets you change your project settings on the fly. Not under save project though. let me know

Thanks, Jason, but there are no tabs in 3.62, and no project settings other than for the HDV codec under hardware there. As well, when I tried to export an EDL, thinking that I'd reassemble my project that way, Edius refused to let me, saying that the clips in my timeline were different from my project setting. I'm surprised, because Edius is supposed to ingest all kinds of things. Maybe it wants me to render everything. I think I'm going to have to reassemble the project by hand - not too terrible, because it's very simple. But I'll stay away from that mysterious codec option!

oh shit. that's right sorry. i remember seeing that in a tutorial. v4 is the 1st one with an actual menu. sorry.
version 4 shouldn't give you those problems. It is my understanding you can just drop multiple formats on the same timeline and change your project settings on the fly. I know you can do the latter because i have done it. The first, I will have to wait and see
sorry, i see now in another thread that you mentioned you are running 3.62.
Version 4 :)
