With HorrorFest right around the corner, I thought I'd rewatch Session 9. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and rent it. This movie did a great job of raising tension and putting you on the edge of your seat. While the movie certainly couldn't be called a gore fest, it had some. What it really did well was raise the level of tension and unease. Some great images and setup for those looking for a way to give a sense of foreboding. The horror in this movie is psychological, and the atmosphere is intimidating. Some very good performances by actors that step out of their comfort zone, particularly David Caruso who gives a really believable performance of a man on the edge of losing it.

If you want to see how to raise the stakes in a psychological terror/horror, do yourself a favor and take a look at this movie. It would have been easy for everyone to say, "we're making a b-movie" and mail it in, but they didn't.

I love this flick, easily one of my favorite horror flicks off the last 10 years.

A very good flick. I recently rewatched this, as well. My girlfriend hadn't seen it, so I needed to fix that.

Excellent little horror film. This and Frailty are a couple of my favorites over the past few years.

I liked it. Brad Anderson also made The Machinist (cool flick) and recently made an episode for the Showtime series "Masters of Horror". His episode was called "Sounds Like". I think I've seen the series on DVD at Hollywood video.

Technical note: Session 9 was one of the first theatrical releases shot on the F900...unfortunately it looks like slurry video--a lot like what Collateral suffered from.

I saw this about a year ago and totally loved it. Caruso was great in it. It was nice to see him not playing David Caruso for once like he does in CSI, (which i think is one of the worst acted and written shows on TV)

Why is his head always tiitled and is he limited to one liners? And his wife!?!!? That character is just not believeable as ever being sensual or loving.

I love this flick.

I've actually been to the Danvers State Mental Hospital. It is that creepy in real life.

Talk about an easy job for the Set Designer.

Imagine having access to a place like that for a flick. That's gotta kick ass.

This is the only place that scared the crap outta me. I mean it was genuinly frightening.

Wow I totally forgot about this gem! I caught it on Showtime Beyond, years ago. Time to go buy the DVD :X

Hmmm, for some reason I remember thinking this movie was boring. But I guess I should see it again. Throwing it in Netflix.

It's actually possible. At least it was a few years ago. The Massachussetts Office of Film and Television had it listed as one of their "free" locations. Which is why i was able to check it out. Ultimately we decided not to use the location but damn it was awesome.

I knew that was video! I also absolutely love this movie. I have to ask though. Did anyone else find it f.ucking hilarious when they were arguing about the sounds on the different floors and Caruso turns around and goes "Hey, f.uck youuuuuuuu." I honestly thought the filmmakers were going for some kind of out of place laugh, but the commentary mentioned nothing of the sort. I mean, just the way he says it, and the way they zoom in on him for the line. Anyway, I laughed my ass off at that.
