Does the movie studio version offer rotoscoping ?
Masks ?
And in Vegas 6 full version, where does one draw the masks and rotoscope ? On the preview window. So are there any facilities to zoom in when we rotoscope ? Or we only have to work with the preview window size. I think he preview window can be made full screen right ?
Thanks

There is no rotoscoping in Vegas. You’ll need a plug-in like Boris RED or another application like Bauhaus Mirage.
Masking is done in the Pan/Crop window.

Sure. Just resize it so that it fills the whole screen. You can also zoom in with the mouse wheel. Sometimes I work with the Pan/Crop full screen on my second monitor. There is no need for it to remain small.

Thanks Johnny...But can you tell me how (thru which connection) youve connected your 2nd monitor to your comp ?

My second monitor is connected via my PC graphics card (nVidia GeForce 6800GT) which supports dual monitors.

Thanks again. I feel bad to ask you again ? But what cable socket is that in the nvidia card is it the square port pin type thing ? Because LCDs have only that kinda plug ,, so does the nvidia accept that or youve used a different hook up ? And since you use a 2nd monitor setup like this does it still allow you to have one more TV hooked up for color correction check etc ?

LCD displays can take two different connections depending on the display. The less expensive LCD’s (like mine) have Analog 15-pin D-Shell connections. The more expensive displays have DVI. Some have both.
My graphics card only has DVI outputs so I’m using two (2) DVI-to-15pin Analog adapters to connect my displays. They actually came with the graphics card for connecting analog LCD’s.
Using a TV for color correction is accomplished by connecting your TV to your PC via a firewire cable and a DV-to-analog converter box like the ADS Pyro A/V Link (which I use) or Canopus ADVC-110 (or lots of other DV to analog converter boxes). You can even use your DV camcorder if it supports pass-thru mode but I wouldn’t want to do this every day.

There's no problem with using your camcorder as a pass-through. It doesn't put any wear on it.

Does the dvx offer passthru mode David ?

Yes. Most digital/firewire camcorders do.

But for capture is it better to buy a dv deck ?
Are there any advantages ?
Ive read somewhere here that DV decks seem to somehow pump out better quality video during capture due to some inbuilt video quality improvisation circuitry ? Is it True ?

The video quality is the same. It's digital, so it's all 1s and 0s, and if you get all the 1s and 0s, you've got the video. It's the same as opening a Word document from a CD or from a hard drive or from the Internet. It's exactly the same file.
Having a deck is better for a number of reasons; it frees up your gear and you can leave it connected all the time; its tape transport is designed for the purposes of a deck (can start/stop/rewind/advance/shuttle better); it saves hours of wear from the heads of the camera.
It doesn't mean you must have a deck, but it's desirable.
