If anyone knows the engineers who build these cameras, can you please tell the canon folks about adapting technology from their slr counterparts about AF selection points that you can pick within the frame for focusing priority. In almost all the threads with the new hd cams, focusing seems to be a problem made more obvious by the higher res. I come from a stills background and am very comfortable with canon's fast AF. I am not afraid of using AF as long as I know where the active AF focus point is.
This is actually canon's advantage over other makers, they have topnotch technology for their slrs, which sensibly should be incorporated in their video cameras. If I can think this up, should'nt they be doing this pronto?

SLR cameras use separate AF sensors analyzing images reflected by the mirror before the picture is taken. Smaller digital cameras with constant preview feature allow to move AF selection area anywhere in the frame.
Your suggestion is very good. If AF point selection is built in Canon's Digic processors, it should be also in Digic II DV. We'll see how the new Instant AF performs when A1 and G1 are released. It promises big improvement.
