One of my short films is 35 minutes long and my timeline is just huge, like 150+ tracks...needless to say it consumes massive amounts of memory and takes forever to load. How do you handle large projects? Does anyone here nest?

I can't speak to Vegas, but in FCP I create different sequences and edit them independent of one another. You can then string the individual sequences together in a final sequence.

It looks like you're answering your own question there!

You could have a .veg for each scene and then nest them all into a master .veg file. I find that Vegas is better than FCP at handling large projects, although 150+ tracks is a lot!!

heheh kholi, i have been MIA

thanks glenn, I was thinkign of doing that but sometimes I might bring a few clips briefly into other scenes, so its useful to have it all together on one big timeline, however, the overhead is sometimes unmnageable so I think I will be nesting from now on!!

150 tracks !!!

how many video tracks do you have ?
how many audio ?

i usually go 3-6 hours of media in TL but with approx 4 - 8 video tracks ( with audio) till i get a locked picture .. then i may add another 8-16 audio FX tracks ...

I've always done the nested thing. Definitely makes things more manageable and it doesn't take forever just to load up the project.

nesting and veg files are a great way to work with large projects. DWP is working on a project right now that will hopefully be feature length. But we have 80 hours of footage to go through, and 4 of us working on the project.

When we can save our bits and pieces into veg files and trade those amongst the different editing machines, we have a much higher production before we started doing that.

I'm editing a five minute short right now and I'm still nesting scene by scene. I find it's just easier that way.
