I have this problem with Vegas preview screen.
It starts to lag and shows footage about in 1fps when I put 2-3 effects or color fix effects on timeline. Preview screen is set to small screen and I use "Preview (auto)" quality to watch.
Also if the project is long, it goes even worse, something like 1 frame in 3seconds. Or when I add more effects, preview fps gets more and more slower.

If I loop 5-10sec part of that track for 10-15 times over and over it starts to show up more smoother in ~15-25fps.
(I can put some pieces on timeline into memory by pressing shift+b, but it renders so slowly and when I change 1sec part of it, I have to do shift+b again..)

I have 3,2ghz machine with 3gb memory. First I had 1gb of memory and then bought 2gb's more and didnt effect in anyway to Vegas. I have set Vegas to use 1900mb of memory from video options.

When I press play in Vegas and check from Windows task manager - performance, it shows this:
CPU Usage: 45%
PF Usage: ~1gb

This is really annoyin problem with Vegas.
Please help!

laying Effects into your layers will gerally cause a mad slow-down in the real-time preview. (Magic Bullet by an chance? That is one of the worst.)

What kind of Graphics Card?

I have GeForce 6600... I havnt never used Magic Bullet, if its worse than in Vegas that would be crazy to edit :D

That 1fps lag in preview screen really is annoyin, is there anyway to speed it up a bit?

You can do a build dynamic preview under tools I think. It will take some time but if you have a looped section it will only use your ram to smooth playback on that given section. You can always prerender as well but that also takes time.

Yes I use sometimes this dynamic preview option (shift+b). It takes sometimes just too long to shift+b, make change, shift+b, make change again, shift+b...

Isnt there any other way/or option where preview can be adjusted to more smooth?

What effects are you using? Obviously some are more intensive than others so if you're using two or three of the biggest CPU hogs it'll cause this. Also of course you can go to draft view. I see a big difference in playback between draft and preview, and although it looks really bad you still get an idea of how things are fitting together.

MisterCat,

Yes, some of those blur effects makes it lag even more..
I usually use Color Corrector, and Color Corrector (secondary) and Color Curves..
Sometimes I have ~15 effects on timeline and ~10-20 effects in clips effects, thats when it gets _crazy_ to edit.. 1frame / hour about :)

The weird part is that my computer says it uses only 45% of CPU in 'Windows task manager' -> 'performance' tab..

That draft preview mode helps, but it so ugly lookin so I try to avoid that. But even with draft mode I usually get max 17fps..

Wow, that's a lot of effects to run at one time. 15 track effects with additional 10-20 effects on clips? You'd probably be asking a lot of just about any PC at that rate. My advice would be to pre-compose some of your tracks so that you're not running so many effects in real time. That way you might be running 1/3 or 1/4 the number of effects and your PC can have a chance at keeping things running smoothly. Someone else may have other ideas but that's my coupla cents.
