Hi,
My Canon MV500i has a good image when shooting in well lit conditions, however when the sun goes down and i film in low light conditions a RED/WHITE/GREEn (mostly red) dot appears on both the screen and transfer to dv tape.

Does anyone know what causes/ fixes this. (i can get rid of it in post)
Also, does this happen to all cameras, or just my shotty one?

Not that it really matters, gives me an excuse to upgrade! (what to though? *???)

You'd probably want to ask about this on a Canon forum, not a Panasonic one.

"still this must but a possible malfunction on all cameras? even a dvx?"

LOL

You'll probably do better on a Canon forum, where they may have encountered the problem you're describing.

Whatever, but you're not flooded with answers......hmmm

Perhaps asking your question on a Canon forum, where they might have encountered the problem you're describing.

I used to have a Canon Optura, and i had this problem, a "hot pixel" burned into the footage whenever gain was engaged. I ended up living with it, it pissed the hell out of me though. I soon got a DVX and all was well!

If your camera is covered under warranty they might fix it - if it's what I had, then its a problem in the CCDs, and there's nothing you can do but get a new camera (or CCDs). Contact Canon and see what they have to say :-/

It's always nice to know a second language.

Did you sign.......slowly? ;)

Yes, I do now at least. My aunt is deaf and when I was a kid I learned sign language from my mom so I could communicate with her. I didn't really need to as she was so good at reading lips, but I guess I didn't really understand that. I wanted to "talk to her myself", so I learned to sign. After I moved from Chicago, I didn't do it so much and right now I really have to think about it. Also, my aunt liked to talk, instead of signing, but since she was deaf from birth, she sounded like many deaf people do, but being Italian, she often talked very fast, so I couldn't understand her and would have to tell her to slow down. She had no middle speed. The governor was either off or on, you know what I mean. So when I think of that I wind up typing what I did. BTW, if there are any deaf members of this forum, I mean no disrespect. My fondest childhood memories were spent with my Aunt Loraine.

Yeah, it was under warranty when it happend, but no longer is, btw dont buy a canon or dont ring canon's Australian main office they are useless on phone support, make you wait an hour then cant even tell you where their clients are located to buy a camera plus they dont have record of if shops selling their camera are registered dealers, how am i susposed to trust that its not hong kong warrenty,,, poor poor poor. trying to buy a camera and they refuse to sell it to me, thats the canon way! (probably caus they know i will ring them up a week later saying there is another problem with my camera).

You have a dead pixel on the CCD. Not fixable on a low budget camera (actually quite hard to mask on the expensive ones...). You need a new CCD block. It's not brand related.
