soon you'll come around to the Callaghan way of thinkin'!!
BWAHAHAHAHA!!!
EDIT:
Serious question...
How the hell do you get a good screen grab? Everytime I press "PRINT SCREEN" with a DVD playing (or paused as the case may be), then paste it in photoshop or where ever...I get a funky cropped mess. Any tips?

Damn, too lazy to post grabs.
in no order, I think you'll all remember via text.
1. Opening shot of Clockwork Orange
2. Amelie on the bridge throwing stones
3. Jesus Quintana licking his ball
4. Through the Peephole shots in Pi - not so much for aesthetic. Always a fan of subjective personality shots - it tells his character in that one shot.

John,
Unbelievable that you haven't seen this picture before now. It is indeed a perfect film.
We've done these lists a million times (films, not necessarily shots per se). Woven into these select, extraordinary pictures (e.g., Raiders of the Lost Ark; The Third Man; Casablanca; Lawrence of Arabia) are thousands of perfect still images.

Poetic , and one heck of a cowboy movie.
And Hitch -
http://www.dvxuser6.com/uploaded/5258/1156130307.jpg
Of course Hitch had a lot of great shots.
And some I couldn't find from a quick search on the net - World of Apu (moving in a way I didn't think was possible). Andrei Rublev (soaring into the sky crane shots, and snow in a Church -unforgettable). Lawrence of Arabia + Bridge on the River Kwai. Citizen Kane and all of Kurosawa's work.
I wish I could post exact shots, but for some reason they've disabled screen shot on the Mac (DVD) i'm on :( F-ers.

Casablanca captures, through every department and performance, a world and a story that never could have possibly existed. But somehow it does, and it is perfect in every way.
Most cinephiles are content to overlook one odd SFX shot that appears within the film - realizing that Casablanca effectively sets the benchmark for any and all pictures ever produced before or after it.
Put anything against it, any of the great films, right next to it - Seconds; Ben Hur; L' Atalante; Greed; Citizen Kane; How the West Was Won; On the Waterfront; Patton; Raiders of the Lost Ark; The General; 8 1/2; Ikiru; Singin' In the Rain; It's a Wonderful Life - and on and on and on and you'll see how incomparable it really is.
There isn't a wasted, flawed moment in it. Each character is developed, arching within the greater story without need for filler, fodder or pandering to the audience. At the conclusion, the conflicts are resolved without the happy ending. It is a bittersweet fantasy, and anyone who has been in love can effortlessly relate to Rick and Ilsa despite their rather extraordinary situation.
I'd argue that there are other "perfect" films out there, but I'd offer that Casablanca stands out among the rest.

Uh... oops! TKAM is also a perfect film - even if the music sounds like it was
originally conceived for a 1960s daytime soap. Perfect.

I love this shot. Very cool and from 1941 no less.
No less? Pound for pound, you will likely find more great shots from that studio era than since.
Here is another great one from Notorious, a crane shot that starts out way high and comes down to the key in Bergman's hand.
http://www.nicksflickpicks.com/notorius.jpg
What's the movie where he does the long shot over the dance hall to close in on the drummer's (the murderer) eyes, as the band plays "drummer man." can't think of it now, but that too is amazing.
Another great shot from Strangers on a Train:

Sergio Leone's Once Upon A Time In The West has some great shots. Here is one of my favourites.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b395/gallowan/once1.jpg
We first start off with Jason Robards walking into the bar and we eventually hear a harmonica playing.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b395/gallowan/once2.jpg
He tries to shine the light on the man playing the harmonica, then throws it down the line towards this unknown man.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b395/gallowan/once3.jpg
We then see Charles Bronson playing his harmonica.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b395/gallowan/once4.jpg
As the light swings back and forth we see his piercing eyes.
The scene then continues into a kind of test and with Robards sizing up what kind of man Bronson is.

All that box does is add the image tags to your link. So by simply adding them yourself you can bypass that. So if the box isn't popping up for you. All you have to do is copy and paste your link into the text box and at the front put the tag and at the end .
Hope this helps.

Cygnet,
I recognize a couple of your screenshots but not others. How about identifying them because I am intrigued.

Cygnet,
Great... How about some Tarr, Werckmeister Harmonies...
ADDED:Cygnet, there must be good reasons behind your obsession with Moddysson, i'll check his films... Also, is SARABAND any good? After all those years and countless masterpieces, does Bergman have anything new to say?
Why didn't I include something from Werckmeister? yes, this is actually my favorite frame from the infamous 10 minute opening shot.

Saraband didn't disappoint me. Bergman, as a man facing his own mortality, still has plenty to say from that perspective. As for Moodysson, I'm only obsessive about Lilja 4-ever. I like F*cking Amal and Together, not crazy about A Hole In My Heart. but I am eager to see his latest, Container.
Cygnet,
