I had never seen the film. Just decided to rent it tonight. It's a darn good flick! Denzel and Gene Hackman were great. Really awesome movie, great cinematography. I loved how lots of the shots were slanted when they were in the sub. It really added to the intensity. Lots of great quotable lines as well. I have a new theory that its not the lines themselves that are quotable, it's the actors saying the lines. Anyway, it was an awesome movie!

I belive Das Boot is the best submarine movie ever. Problem with this movie is they had three possible endings. Hackman wins, blows nukes, no Russians attack. Denzil win, cancels nukes, Russians attack. Denzil wins, cancels nukes, no Russian attack. They chose the wimp ending. But hey, thats my thought.

Fair enough... I still felt the performances of the actors drove the film home for me. Loved it in every way.

Love both Denzil and Hackman, just not this movie. Glad you were able to like it. Every movie deserves and audience. You should check out Das Boot sometime. It is in German and was filmed in '81 but I think it is the best there is.

BTW, I do think this is a good movie if you don't dislike the ending.

A little FYI, Tarantino ghostwrote a lot of the screenplay.

I think Tarantino also wrote the bits referencing Star Trek (Denzel's "Kirk & Scotty" lines).

I really liked this movie, saw it in the theater. It's just enjoyable watching Hackman and Denzel go at it.

Totally! They make simple dialogue scenes into gripping stuff!
