Anyone knows how the image will look like when shooting under lights @ 50hz (pal region) with an NTSC camera in progressive mode? Will it flicker? Any ideas on the best settings? I will be shooting and editing. Then I will have to make a dvd in both NTSC and PAL. I won't have access to a NTSC monitor over there, so I won't be able to look at the results and make any test.
Thanks!

We have extensively used a NTSC camera in NZ (PAL & 50Hz country) without noticing any flicker under any kind of light. Making both a PAL and NTSC DVD afterwards is another story...

The great thing about video is that you can monitor it live and see if it's flickering (provided you bring along an NTSC television set!) Maybe one of those cheap little battery-powered black & white sets would be the trick... if you do get flicker, try going into the synchro-scan menu and changing shutter speed to eliminate it. Shutter Off is 1/50th when shooting in 24p, so that should probably be about right.

That's RIGHT, Barry, I have completely forgot about the shutter :o , that's what we did first thing...

I shot a show on a NTSC DVX in France using 1/100 shutter speed and had no flicker. The producer shot 2nd camera w/ shutter off and there is a noticeable flicker in his footage (names are withheld to protect the innocent, particularly since the innocent got me a good gig).
I bought a power converter, but you don't need one. All you need is an adapter for you plug to charge your batteries.
