I'm a little skeptical about this one.

It's produced by Joel Silver's Dark Castle Production Company, which I'm convinced is a company used to show losses come tax time.

They've put out such gems as: Gothika, Ghost Ship, 13 Ghosts(which has got to be a top 10 worst flick of all time), and House on Haunted Hill.

It's got a decent director - directed Predator 2 & a bunch of "24" episodes...

The trailer is interesting, but I'll wait for some reviews first.

Yeah, Im not getting excited about this from Dark Castle. Look at there track record. 0 for 4. But maybe they've went in a different direction this time, hopefully.

But the trailer does look good, I'll admit it. And it's got an oscar winner (but what does that mean).

13 Ghosts(which has got to be a top 10 worst flick of all time)

Ha ha, I just watched this the other night, and yes, it is BY FAR one of the worst movies ever made.

As for this one, there's just nothing scary or even interesting about a swarm of digital locusts.

Also, I am a more than a bit skeptical of its tow-the-line Bible-thumping message.

Echoing what you wrote... it states that the movie is a "Thriller, Action & Adventure."

That trailer tells me this is a horror movie. This might end up being another classic example of misleading an audience with a trailer(see Shyamalan's trailers for his last 2 flicks as great examples)

... it is BY FAR one of the worst movies ever made.

That's a mighty tall order.

Hmmm; interesting views ....

Ill keep an eye on it. Unfortunately (?), I liked

Ghost Ship, Th13teen Ghosts and House on Haunted Hill (In a schlocky B kind of way).

I don't know. It just seems cooler than the current trend of techno-gloss martial arts vampire films or PG-13 poorly made Japanese remakes.

-

The real problem, is that there just currently isn;t any scary films being made.

The Descent (http://www.thedescentfilm.com) was pretty damn good.

Check out twitchfilm.com (http://www.twitchfilm.com)

The movies they talk about tend to be horror related and they know of mostly all the cool flicks coming up.

Two flicks to watch out for:

The Host (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/film/1019). This was apparently the most talked about film at Cannes this year.

to see a trailer from youtube:

I don't think the trailer does it justice(maybe cuz I can't understand what they're saying,) but you get a glimpse at the monster and it's pretty sweet.

&

Skinwalkers (http://www.skinwalkersthemovie.com) Stan Winston is doing the werewolf spfx makeup. (the site sucks right now, nothing up yet)

There's also the movie from Project Greenlight... Feast. Don't know much about it but here's the tagline:

"When a diverse group of strangers find themselves trapped in an isolated tavern, they must band together in a battle for survival against a family of flesh-hungry creatures that lay seige." (sounds basic, but could be fun)

The problem I had with 13 Ghosts was it was a cool idea, but it just wound up being a bunch of actors in a LOT of make-up. I felt like they never really did anything truely creative with the concept. I have not seen the original, but am going to this week.

Oh and I felt like Tony Shaloub was wasted. One of the most creative actors working and just kind of a really, really bland role for him.

The real problem, is that there just currently isn;t any scary films being made.

This is certainly true. I didn't even really like the Descent because I felt like it made the HUGE mistake of showing the monster. And once you see it, it's really, REALLY not scary. This is the reason I felt like something like Alien was so effective. They never REALLY showed you that guy in a rubber suit. So your imagination is let free to roam and come up with what scares YOU. This is actually something we're working with in our horror entry, is how do you use filmmaking techniques to engage the audiences' imagination, build suspense, etc and get them scared, rather than just show them the whatever. Because invariably you can scare yourself more than Hollywood can scare you, in my opinion.

In defense of what has yet to be seen... This movie looks far better than anything else made by this studio. and better than many films distributed by Lionsgate.

I take it back. It wasn't NEARLY as bad as SNAKES ON A PLANE. :) I juyst got back from that crazy car-wreck. Yes, I was subject to the buzz...

I never saw Ghost Ship, but I remember House on Haunted Hill having some good creepy vibe going for it, like when the old crazy Dr. who ran then place years ago started showing up...

Well, I am no stranger to the B-Movie. One of my favorite movies is Re-Animator. But that is superior B material and execution, I think.

Superior B

I think we have a new classification

And of course the best B movie ever title has to go to "Big Trouble in Little China." That deserves a category all its own.
