View Full Version : Dirty heads

I continue to get the flashing red X on my viewfinder. I clean them with the head cleaning tape and it returns with one tape recorded on it. I have 127 hours shot with this camera. What else could I do to make sure they are clean? Send into a certified service? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Wait a minute. You haven't logged all 127 hours on the same tape, have you?

How many times have you used the tape that creates the problem???

maybe this wasnt' clear. I have shot 127hrs of footage on 127 individual tapes, well maybe 106 give or take a few. Thanks to pookie for the link, I tried searching dirty heads. Leave it to Barry to find the answer.

Clean the heads and the tape path properly.

The link Pookie posted above doesn't seem to exist anymore. I'm assuming that it was to Barry S.'s great discussion of cleaning the tape heads. What happened to that thread? It used to be fixed at the top of the technical section.

Here's a free forum search tip. If you want to find one of the older, but popular threads, go to the bottom of the forum page under DISPLAY OPTIONS and choose the SORTED BY with either Number of Replies or Number of Views--then click on Show Threads. The popular threads will come right up to the top of the page. Try it and you'll easily find the Head Cleaning thread.
