I find that that although the footage I shoot with my DVX is expoxed properly and looks great on the viewfinder and LCD monitor, when I capture it and look at it on my system it appears under exposed. This occurs no matter what software I capture with or edit with (vegas, pinnacle, etc.) . This also occurs with my sony camcorder footage too. I am on a PC with an ATI DV8500 video card. Any thoughts as to why this might be occuring and how I can resolve? :-/

There are a few things you can do.
1. Make sure you calibrate your computer monitor as best you can.
2. Calibrate your VF/LCD.
3. If you use the auto iris feature, is it set to underexpose in your scene file?

Calibrating the LCD is SO much fun.
If you don't have a real monitor to compare it to, using the bars and such, try this:
Set all the levels in the LCD setup down to about 2 tick marks each. That gets it pretty close on mine...but do some testing to see if what you then see is what you get.

Thnks for the response. *I have checked to make sure that auto iris is not set to underexpose. *I will do some extensive calibrating and testing to see if I can get a good match. Thanks! :)

LCD can't be used as reference for aperture adjust, since the angle between the screen and your eyes can change the LCD bright.
If you don't have an external monitor to check the image as you rec, turn zebra ON at 100% and you'll know the areas that are over exposed, then just close the iris a little amd you are close to the right aperture.
EVF should be better than LCD to check aperture.
LCD is good to check colors and frame.
I hope this helps,

Thanks. That's what I was thinking. In addition to the best possible calibration, using the zebra @ 100% seems to be the safest point of reference.
