I am new to shooting in DV andI am hoping some kind Knowledgable soul can set me striaght on the following:

I have been shooting a project and somehow our last day of shooting was accidentially recorded in LP mode, where all other scenes where done in SP ...the only analogy Ican think of is like a VHS tape or something....I cannot tell the difference on my Desktop ..I guess my question is is it going to be REALLY noticible in a larger format, or effect my audio in a way that I cannot dectect right now? I guess I just want to know if it is a big deal or not...whether it is worth re recording.

Thanks.....

In DV, there is no quality difference between SP and LP. It's all 1s and 0s. SP just gives you a little more protection against dropouts. If you've captured the footage and everything looks fine, you're good to go.

There is one other difference, which is that SP mode allows you to choose either 32khz/4-channel audio OR 48khz/2-channel, and LP mode restricts you to only 48khz/2-channel.

Also, LP mode is more prone to dropouts, as Horse said, but also it may not be compatible with any other camera or deck! LP mode is really only ever guaranteed to play back on the camera that originally recorded it.

So if you have LP footage, firewire it over to your computer or firewire it to an SP camera/deck so that you preserve it.

Thanks for clarifying, Barry! I always forget something. ;)
